Vintage Linn Turntable main bearing - used
Here we have a hi-fi turntable main bearing if I recall correctly. Originally from a Linn turntable. This is in good condition but s pretty old and will have come off a turntable when it was replaced by one of Linn's many upgrades. As you will see from the photos. It predates the later phosphor bronze coloured bearings and therefore is far from state-of-the-art; however it works fine and may be of some use to you if you are messing around, experimenting, or even building your own turntable. It is in reasonably good condition; there's not really anything else to say HAPPY BIDDING!

Garrard 301 Transcription Motor Turntable (Late model, Oil bearing type.)
A late Garrard 301. Serial number 81307, fitted with a strobe platter. The platter looks like a 401 type, but it is finished in black, rather than dark grey. The strobe markings are bright and clear. There's no mat, so you will need to use your own preferred type. There are some blemishes on the cream paintwork under the platter(not usually seen. There is a dustbug mark on the left hand side of the chassis above the on/off switch. And some brown blemishes between the on/off switch and speed control. I've tried to show these clearly in the images. The switch fascias are unmarked. And the original knobs are in good condition. The idler is quite pliable. This turntable had been in storage for a long time. I have cleaned it lightly. And oiled the motor bearing, idler and spindle bearing. I then connected it to the mains and it all seems ... moreto be working correctly. It reaches speed quickly, holds speed and the fine speed adjuster works. The brake is adjusted correctly. I left it running for two hours and there was no overheating or other problems. Please be aware though. That it would benefit from a thorough'detailing' to remove dust etc from the under-chassis area, and it would be advisable to give it a good service before being used regularly- it is about 45 years old, after all! The chrome mounting bolts are in good condition. And have their original washers, nuts and locking half-nuts. I have listed some shipping costs(which include insurance) in the p&p details. I cleaned and re-lubricated the bearing with a good synthetic oil. The tone arm has been tested and is in good working condition. The Maplenoll Athena is an air bearing linear tonearm type table. It uses an air pump to provides a smooth frictionless bearing for the tone arm to move in linear fashion. Virtually eliminating any tracking error. The pump is included however you will have buy the airline yourself. This is because it is recommended to keep the pump remote from turn table since it makes noise. You can purchase tubing from any tropical fish supplier. There is plenty of information online about this turn table and how to set up the air pump. The original manual is also included. This has been burned in and adjusted to approximately 86 volts per pole side with a digital voltmeter. Start up is a bit slow but the balance of voltage when up to speed yields exceptional sound quality. In my testing any lower voltage could not get the platter going without some help. My objective was to achieve the lowest voltage possible to start the platter running. Speed is smooth. Accurate, and the sound was some of the best I have heard from an LP12 regardless of power supply. The subtle nuance on some of my very familiar recordings jumped from the sound stage. Originally set up with an Ittok LV II arm using Linn Adikt, Rega Exact 2, and Linn Asak phono cartridges for testing. Cosmetic condition is outstanding with no detriment. The original wood plinth from 1982 is in fantastic shape as is the top plate. Platter, arm board, and bottom board. The dust cover is a brand new replacement piece from the Turntable Depot in Florida.

Here's a BEAUTIFUL working Garrard 301 with a Garrard base. I have no history on this machine but I'll tell you what I know. The spindle has been lightly lubricated. The brake works, it shifts smooth and the speed control works. The tire looks amazing, no cracks and it has a 60Hz drive spindle. And of course with the base it is Beautiful. The Rek-O-Kut tone arm does not work. It needs a new headshell. The headshell does not make good contact to the arm due to a crack near connector end. The tone arm is pitted as you can see in the pictures. Also included are an original Garrard 45 adaptor and the Audio Technica AT12XE cartridge. Here we have an awesome turntable bearing: The VPI HW19 MKIV Platter Bearing. This is a terrific bearing for anyone doing a DIY turntable who wants one of the best and simple bearings made. I took pictures of the thrust plate. It barely has any wear on it.while the bearing stock is great, one could add a silicon nitride ball bearing and REALLY improve it very easily. All friction would reduce to almost zero and the platter would spin free with only the Delrin shaft sleeves providing friction which is minimal. Making a platter for this is very easy if you have either a plastics or machine shop near you. MAKE SURE TO READ ALL DETAILS BELOW- IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE. Cosmetically. 8 out of 10 on the Audiogon scale due to some light wear& tear on the face and body, all photographed, all functions are at factory specification or better. You're bidding on a Garrard(England) 301 transcription turntable in lovely operational and cosmetic condition. First released in 1954. The 301 was a revelation. Consisting of a stand-alone motor unit with no attendant tonearm, its ruggedness, beautiful build quality, quietness of operation and astounding performance quickly gave it a home in radio stations across the UK. It was a peerless device. With its big bearing. Formidable motor and compliant idler drive mechanism, the Garrard was(and is) a breeze to use and is still capable of staggeringly good sonic performance- in fact, during the late 1970s and early 1980s, when Japan was slaying the audio world with the quality of its direct drive and belt drive"ultra" decks, many of the Japanese audiophile cognoscenti(obviously including Ken Shindo and Koetsu's Sugano Yoshiaki) ... morewere quietly buying up"forgotten" 301s, convinced of their superior music-making potential. Having owned many of the famous"end game" turntables(yes. EMTs amongst them) I can say unequivocally that Shindo was right; a well-sorted 301 is capable of trumping them all. This one. Dating from 1959, is in excellent mechanical order and has had servicing performed regularly(plus motor serviced, high quality bearing oil added, linkages greased) It plays gorgeously, the idler wheel has no surface"flats" nor slop in its bushes and the motor is extremely quiet and strong with absolutely rock-solid speed. Cosmetic condition is also great. It has had new(identical) control plates exchanged and the original creamy white enamel paint is extremely attractive. There is a little paint missing just around the rear mounting bolt holes and also at the inner rim of the platter section but this is very difficult to see with the platter installed and it presents handsomely. Lim Turntable Bearing Sheath for Rega RP1 RP3 Planar Upgrade -
This is a spindle bearing sheath designed for Rega turntables. It replaces the standard thin nut securing the bearing assembly to the plinth both by widening its contact surface as well as effectively stiffening it down it's entire length. A highly recommended upgrade to increase stiffness and prevent horizontal stress on RP1. Or"lightweight" platter models now accommodating heavy non-porous platters(acrylic/glass) It takes just a few minutes to install. Tested and run on an RP1 for about 5 hours time, before table was taken in a warranty claim! To handle the rotating load efficiently, the bearing must be sufficiently big(in thickness) in order to maintain rigidity. The bigger ... morethe diameter/thickness, the more rigid the bearing housing is. Moreover, bigger mass also helps to absorb some of the vibration and heat energy that is emanating from the bearing when the sub-platter is spinning. Take a look at Rega P1/ RP1. We find their bearings are smaller(12mm or ~ 1/2" in diameter. Though the housing fits the same sub-platter as other Rega decks, its wall is thinner and of lesser mass(~ 1/3) than that of its bigger brethren( P2 to P5) I have a thought on tweaking my P1 main bearing(12mm) recently. With rigidity and higher mass in mind. I designed and custom-made a hexagonal shape stainless steel main bearing sheath(19mm or 3/4" to be screwed on to the existing bearing. Of course you may say, just change this 12mm bearing to a new bigger bearing will do. But that would involve more tedious work like enlarging the mounting hole on the plinth which I don't wish to do. If you are concerned that heavier glass/acrylic/delrin platters would be strenuous to the main bearing of your RP1/P1. This 3/4" heavy duty stainless steel bearing sheath would relieve you of your anxieties. This simple tweak is easy to carry out for anyone without technica
