NOTE: The serial numbers on the long piece of wood with holes are the same as the serial numbers on the tester. No idea what this means unless it means the 2 metal items(1 fat/short& 1 long/slender) where made for this exact tester. Both where in the holes of the long wood piece I do not know anything about this item except you place metal coated items on the plate. Somehow how it measures the coating thickness by how long the magnet holds the object. No idea if it needs calibrated or what the 2 spare metal pcs(fat& short/long slender) are used for. Those 2 pieces slide into the long box's holes. I did place a small metal split ring on it and the magnet held onto it until the dial was about fully turned. Then it fell of. So I assume it works, not much to them. Probably needs calibrated. Condition: its used. Dial turns freely, magnet holds, height adjustment goes up/down, base plate is scratched from metal sliding across it, case is nice, case does have a slight storage smell but not from smoke. Elcometer 311FNF Steel/Aluminum (Paint meter Thickness gauge Car coating tester
Hi I am selling my used Elcometer with clear rain cover. This is the Elcometer 311FNF. It can detect the paint thickness on aluminum and steel. It is used by almost all auto dealers to detect repainted and/or repaired vehicles. Pictures 1- 5. It demonstrate this Elcometer is accurate and calibrated. Pictures 1: I have the Elcometer measuring a piece of bare aluminum plate with no paint on it. The reading is 0.0 and N mean it detected Aluminum. Pictures 2: I am measuring a piece of plastic and the thickness is 0.23 mm. Converted to Mils = 9 mils. Pictures 3: I placed the plastic sheet on the bare aluminum plate and measuring the thickness using the Elcometer. The meter detected Aluminum N and the thickness reading is 9.0mils which is correct according to picture#2. Pictures 4: I am measuring a piece of Steel plate with thin paint on it. Sorry ... moreI couldn't find a bare steel plate to do this test. Note: It detect Steel F. Pictures 5: I placed the same plastic sheet on top of the steel plate. I used the Elcometer to measure the thickness. It show 9.5 mils and it detected Steel F. Picture 6: This Elcometer can measure 0-20mils thickness.
