Vintage copies of the Old Farmer's Almanac, the oldest continuously published periodical in the United States(the very first issue was for 1793) Here's a great opportunity to start, expand, or improve your collection of this venerable bit of Americana. As many of you probably know. These old almanacs are often in worn, sometimes incomplete condition. They were meant to be used, after all, on a daily basis in a rugged working environment, and then often discarded at the end of the year. So it can be difficult to find complete, intact copies, and collectors(such as myself) are often willing to accept less than a perfect copy- because, frankly, perfect copies of these ephemeral items can be hard to come by. Many sellers ... moreare also aware that these old almanacs often have major flaws, but are careful not to point them out in their listings- either because they really don't have the time to check each one out individually, or because they feign ignorance and hope buyers will be satisfied with whatever they get, even if poorly described. For the almanacs I'm offering. I'm providing clear pictures of the front and back of each copy, to give a good idea of the overall condition(no pretending here, that I don't know whether an almanac is complete or not! The Walgreen Drug Store Co. operated soda fountain until the 1980's. This fork was from the soda fountain days. It has a notation on the handle saying it is the property of Walgreens. The Matthews Catalogue of Carbonated Beverage Apparatus: In 1891. John Matthews, dubbed"The Soda Fountain King" was one of four men that formed the American Soda Fountain Company, a trust which monopolized the soda fountain industry. In the same year, Matthews published this catalogue of lavish, wildly expensive soda fountains- models seemingly only affordable to other Gilded Age capitalists. The fountains, which are priced into the thousands, boast cornice-moulding, gold tracery, beveled-edge panels of Bardiglio, bronze finials, marble columns, glass dome, etc. The catalogue. A hardcover, is 223 pages, the majority of which feature gorgeous wood engraved images in black and brown.
