Army Philippine Campaign Medal No. 11895 Norton S. Nash Signal Corps
Original Army Philippine Campaign Medal Numbered No. 11895 issued to Norton S. Nash for served in likely in the Signal Corps. Mounted on its original ribbon and brooch Norton Samuel Nash was born on September 21. 1872 in Ogdensburg, New York. Nash completed the 6th grade. Nash enlisted in the Regular Army on July 24. 1893 in Springfield, Illinois. He was assigned to Troop E, 2nd US Cavalry. Nash was discharged per Adjutant General Office Special Order#12, 1896 at Fort Wingate, New Mexico as a Private. Nash was employed as a telegraph operator prior to reenlisting. Nash reenlisted on June 26. 1899 in Sacramento, California. He was assigned to the Signal Corps. He was discharged in June 1902 at Angel Island, California as a First Class Private. The fact that he was at Angel Island would indicate that he had just returned from the Philippines ... moreto be discharged. The fact that his medal is numbered in the 11,000 range would preclude it being awarded for anything after the initial phase of the Moro Wars on Mindanao, as medals to veterans of the later campaigns are numbered higher. Has 2 different lenses, one is clear the other is amber. Has a flap cover on the front with 2 little holes in it for some reason. Has a double wire handle on the back, an open chimney on top. From my personal collection: An all original American Flyer Standard-Ga. Early Edition 2118 Block Signal; Circa 1928 Not many of these early versions survived as the die-cast head is almost always gone and the pole is usually in poor paint condition. The diamond base is cast iron with a stunning brass placque. This particular example is the rare of the rare. Please take note that the ladder is the same red as the signal; in almost all instances. This ladder is painted in a contrasting a tan color. Additionally, the back of the factory painted white die-cast head is factory painted in green as can be seen in the detailed pictures. There has been some repair work to the die-cast head which presents very nicely and is still functional as a ground as evidenced by the OEM lacquer dipped working green and red bulbs. This is a Brass Signal Cannon 10-1/2” long and weighs 3.10 pounds. Hole in front of canon is 5/8" opening. The cannon is in very nice condition but has not been polished. it is in good pre owned condition with some wear, tarnish. The stand is made out of oak wood and wood wheels. opening on top is open and goes through. I belive it is a display model does not seem to ever been used.
