These instruments were the ones I used for my Diamonds. Colored Stones, and Gem Identification courses for the Graduate Gemologist designation. I am no longer pursuing jewelry so am selling my equipment. It has always been cared for and covered. The hemicylinder has a tiny scratch but has never impacted the use of the instrument. The front of the polariscope has a window for a light source for the refractometer. I have a couple of yellow filter to place over that but again, having that monochromatic light was never important enough for me to get a good reading on an RI factor, so taping the filter to the light source was more trouble, IMHO, but I'll include them in case you want to try. The little light source they sell has the filter but it is another three Hondo. What you see in the pictures is what you are assured of getting. But the physical condition is so good you could almost swear it just rolled off the assembly line other than the slightly retro vibe of the styling. There is one very small nick to the finish. Top corner near the eyepiece, slightly visible in the first picture. Other than that about the worst thing you can say about it is that I shaved a bit of the“O” off the word Refractometer on the front trying to get the property of sticker off. Last picture shows a dust cover that came with it. I can only assume that it must have spent a lot of time underneath doing nothing to look this good. Valentine Refractometer made by Industro-Scientific. This one has a relatively low manufacturing number of 794 making it very early in their production. Probably late 30's or early 40's. Condition is average good with some paint flaking, mirror corrosion, and a broken water fitting, but the overall black paint job is still strikingly good.
