Which dates the reel to the 1890's, according to Phil White's excellent booklet- Yawman& Erbe Automatic Reels"The Little Finger Does It" Also unusual is that the Y& E markings are on the bottom plate rather than the top as in all the other Y& E reels I have seen, and the serial number plate is also switched. I have to believe this was a factory assembly error as the markings are hard to read on the bottom due to the reel seat and handle. The key wind works but the click does not. c.1904 Yawman& Erbe(No. 2 medium) Automatic- Combination key wind reel- 3-3/8 in. dia. It has scuffs. Scratches, small nicks and some pitting. The overall appearance and function are, however, very good. There is no apparent rust and the spin mechanism works as it should- quite fast with no hang-ups. There are patent dates of 1888, 1891 and 1899. Also included is the instruction tag that came with the reel- it is dated 2-8-02 which would place the manufacture date from 1902 until a few years after. Thanks for looking! 8mm Home Movie Film Reel Prohibition Trip Florida Key West Havana Cuba 1931 Colo
Up for auction is a very rare color 8mm home movie filmed during the time of Prohibition and the Great Depression in 1931. Very few Americans were using color film during those difficult years. Circa 1931. The reels has a mild smell of vinegar but is acceptable. They should be conditioned with moist fluid conditioner to help them become more elastic again. I had to pull 5 feet of film manually through a projector until reaching films that could be advanced correctly by my projector. The extra effort was worth it. Florida overseas highway in all its glory and prior to the Hurricane of 1935. Other highlights include horse racing in south Florida or Cuba; The Havana Fort actually has a guard pacing back and forth; Sloppy Joes Bar with a woman posing and pointing to the words and mouthing them. Lots of vintage booze in the window. I haven't ... moreseen this scene in color before during prohibition! Great look back at tourism during the depression in the old South and Cuba before it went South. Beautifully done! The majority of the film is in acceptable condition for its age except for the beginnings of the reels. It has been inspected and projected. More than 90% of the film is acceptable even though having a mild smell of vinegar. Please also note that my handling time is 10 business days.
