1932 Aluminum Musical Instrument Company. Inc. Of Ann Arbor Michigan made Violin SERIAL NUMBER 18 ORIGINAL LABEL. Beautiful. Antique violin plays beautifully. Had restrung by professional in Davenport, Iowa recently so it is ready for a avid musical to play. The violin at the National Museum of American History is Serial number 356. You are buying NUMBER 18. This violin was made by the Aluminum Musical Instrument Company. Inc. in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1932. In the last decade of the 19th century Neil Merrill, president of the Aluminum Musical Instrument Co. in New York City, began incorporating aluminum in the manufacture of mandolins, fiddles, banjos, guitars and zithers. Fitted with spruce soundboards, the bodies of these instruments were pressed from one piece of aluminum. Unrelated to Merrill's efforts. On March 24, 1932 the Buffalo ... moreplant of ALCOA(Aluminum Company of America) joined with Dr. Joseph Maddy, a music teacher from Ann Arbor and director of the National High School Orchestra Camp at Interlochen. They redesigned a 1928 aluminum double bass model in order to market aluminum violins, with bow and case for $50.00. The Buffalo plant assembled and finished the violins to resemble wood and Dr. Maddy provided the set-up work and sales from Ann Arbor. ALCOA records indicate the Buffalo Fabricating Plant provided a total of 435 violins to Dr. Maddy and about 500 double bass instruments to other dealers. This 1932 model is molded with half-height ribs and back pressed from a single piece of aluminum joined at the center height of the ribs to a similarly molded aluminum table with half-height ribs. It is fitted with an aluminum neck with wood core. And an aluminum pegbox, scroll, bassbar and endpin. The exterior aluminum surfaces are painted to imitate wood grain.

The box is walnut and has a split along the back top between the edging piece and the glue seam of the top its self. At point someone has used Gorilla Glue to try and repair it. This is ITI's Series 129000 Small Video Mouse system used for inspecting the inside diameter surfaces of pipes. Tubes, and cylinders. It is a used system acquired at auction from a local college. It is being sold in the parts only section because the video tip has been damaged so the system cannot be checked out to see how it has been working. I do not know how to repair the damaged end(fourth photo) or what it would cost to repair either. The kit seems to be complete including operating manual, camera control unit and viewing heads. I took this really neat speaker cabinet in on trade about 20 years ago. The"band broke up" And I never got to professionally use it. This is a Tour Sound Products Inc. speaker cabinet, made in Bohemia NY, USA, which was loaded with an extremely heavy duty cast frame 8 ohm Altec 421"Musical Instrument Bass Speaker" which works fine. There are a few dings on the cabinet. This Altec speaker had the dust cover replaced(I think) with a black one before I ever got it. The cone looks quite original. There is a(very small) repair(rubber cement) on one spot where the cone meets the surround. It is not easily noticed, and has no effect on the playability. The cabinet itself(NOT packaged) weighs 50 pounds, and rolls quite easily on the handy factory set of wheels. Dimensions(NOT PACKAGED) are approximately 22" high by 18" ... morewide by 12" deep. That includes the wheels, which add about 2.5" to the height. It is a small, easily transportable cabinet loaded with a very high class professional 15" Altec woofer. It should fit in the trunk or back seat easily with most cars(I am providing measurements so you can determine if that works with your car) The gentleman who traded this to me told me that"several different types of instruments" were played through it at various times. If you know about Altec 421 speakers, you should determine if this will work for your needs. Packaged for shipping, this should weigh about 75 pounds. I can appropriately box this, no problem.
