And the lens looks clear. It comes with a weight( a hand written table of tangents from the original owner, a tag from the manufacturer, a built-in level, and the original box(with labels inside) The box itself is very worn, including the leather strap. The latches on the box don't quite reach the screws for closure. The device is marked as number 3960. The eyepiece extends, and and telescope spins on the bottom axis. Antique 1915 Boston Instrument Company Cornet 3 Star LP NE PLus Ultra Bb / A
Just obtained from an auction in central PA is this absolutely incredible 1914-1915 Boston Instrument Company 3 Star Cornet LP. Serial 22338. The pictures speak for themselves. A family member who graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Masters in Performance(specializing in brass) just gave this a look-over and he was more than impressed. Judging on how well kept it was, he believed it was clearly used by a professional at the time, and the tone on this cornet when it was played was just awesome(certainly more open and fat vs. a 1950's Holton Collegiate cornet) It is believed that Doc Severinsen used a very similar 3 star. Please read the item description as it may answer many of your questions. We can quickly say the valves are very smooth and it plays very smoothly. It could use a valve alignment(middle is slightly higher ... morethan the 1st and 3rd valves) a few slides are stuck, and if you want to get really picky, the red felt under the mother of pearl on valve fingertips could be replaced. As we stated in the item condition, it's all a pretty easy job for and good brass repair person. Also included are the original holders for sheet music while marching(inscribed with Boston on them) along with 2 mouthpieces. The Gold mouthpiece is also made by Boston Instrument Company. Overall, because of its condition, this is an awesome piece of American brass instrument history, and it would make a truly wonderful addition to an avid collector or museum. Cambosco Scientific Company scientific instrument. There's a cast iron base with an electric motor. A long plastic tube with a roller at one end, and an aluminum globe. Overall height is 32" the globe is 10.5" in diameter, and the base measures 14" x 7" x 5" Good condition. The globe has a few small dents. The tube has a couple cracks where the roller pivots meet the tube and some splattered black residue inside the tube. The base is in nice shape. I don't know what this thing does. But I did turn it on and the motor and speed control seem to work fine. The motor runs at very high speed. Since this instrument is a mystery and may be missing parts. Fisher Scientific Co. Refractometer Made in Japan. This refractometer is lab surplus. And has been in storage for a while. It's gray enameled metal, with silver metal fittings/pieces. Has company name and logo on the front. Black cord with 3 prong plug in. Gray enamel paint is in good shape for age and use. It has some scratches and nicks, and some dirt. There are tiny nicks in the enamel along the base edges, and wear to the enamel where the base meets the rest-more on 1 side than the other. There's a spot on the base front where a tag was removed. There's a property tag on the base that I could not get off, but the number has been scraped off. The silver metal parts have finish wear from use and storage most likely. They are not shiny new looking. See photos. It needs some additional cleaning up. I just wiped it off. I plugged ... moreit in, and it lights up like it is supposed to. When it was put into storage it worked fine, the lab just didn't need it at the time because they had gotten a couple new ones. I have no way of testing it.
