Antique African Iron Hoe With Thick, Green Patina/Djenne, Mali Excavation?
Antique African hoe with very old blue green patina. Hoes were very valued in farming areas of Africa due to their relationship to agriculture. I don't have much information about this piece that came from the collector below. But some of the things I bought from the estate had been excavated from Djenne sites near Mali on the Niger river. This piece has a very thick, wonderful patina, that looks like it had been buried for a long time. This is a simple but truely beautiful object! Item came from the very large estate of African art that belonged to a long time Santa Fe collector and dealer who bought many of his things in the 1960's and 1970's when he had a gallery in Santa Fe. The machine starts and runs just fine. It has good hydraulic pressure. NO BLEED DOWN) If the machine has any engine. Or hydraulic problems, we don't know about them and we have used the machine. We purchased the machine used and have had NO trouble with it at all. But the machine is going to auction, AS-IS. This machine may be sold any where in the world and I just don't want to get tied up in a"Not As Described" issue over some minor issue and have an unpaid for machine sitting halfway around the world. That I have to go get, so the machine is being sold AS-IS. It is an older machine that has been taken pretty good care of. But it is older, early ... moreto mid 1980's. It has two buckets that are in good shape. The interior is a little dirty and there are a few small seat holes. it has the slide-up windshield. it is up in the pictures and does have a crack in it) other wise the cab is in fair condition. I would rate the turn table at 90% Or better. I would put the drive sprockets at 70% to 75% and the tracks are somewhere in the 60% to 65% range. To be on the safe side, I would rate the overall drive train at 60%+ It could use a new set of"dog bones" Which are cheap, but what is on the machine will be fine for a good long while, in dirt. In loose gravel, I would give them about another 400 to 500 hours. In hard rock, I would say 200 to 300 hours, at the most. Overall, the machine is in good shape. I intend the sale to be for local pick-up. But if the buyer pays the shipper, I am willing to help he/ she locate a local shipper/ trucking company. But as for the sale itself. It is LOCAL PICK-UP. This is a forged and not a cast head. This is in decent shape and was cleaned sort of. There is some patina but that comes with hard work. The edge is dished, but that was done intentionally. antique colonial iron hoe tool historic trade indian type artifact
For sale is a very old. Early iron metal hoe, it was found in a old shed at a local homplace. it is heavily pitted& rusty but, not a"dug" item, there are no holes, cracks, splits, bends or warps. the pictures should show the condition clearly. it measures 7 1/8" wide x 6 1/2" from the back of the handle hole to the front of blade. this is a very early style hoe, it does not look to be a piece hand made in a forge as it looks to be 1 solid piece. it looks to be cast in a mold or something but it's not cast iron, that was never used for farm tools. I have seen simular looking ones that were pictured in books about trade items from the Europeans to the american indians. am not stating that this hoe is from that time period, I don't know what the time period of it is, just that it is very, very old& is not ... morean"excavated" item. appears that it was outside exposed to weather for many years& eroded from that. overall, it's in very nice condition, have not attemped to clean it. it is in as found condition. please email with any questions before bidding as all sales are final. This original M1 Garand bayonet was made by American Fork and and Hoe and was modifed by Utica as seen by the marking U.C Mod on picture number six. The bayonet was modifed from 16" to 10" during WWII The bayonet blade has about 98% of the blue finish. The handguard and pommel has 90% of finish. The plastic handles are in excellent condition with only minor handling wear. The bayonet comes with a modified M3 scabbard with the US and flaming bomb. The throat of the scabbard was painted at the arsenal to protect the metal. Long ago I obtained this original watercolor painting by Korean artist Hoe Won. There is something very distinct in his use of watercolor and the Zen like quality of his flowers. The butterfly's lightly atop creates a beautiful sense of nature and reminds one of the Springtime and all the flowers coming forth. This painting is painted on a type of light off white paper some time in the 1920's to the 30's. The frame itself is a simple type dark wood which I imagine came from that era also. The glass is there but I would recommend re-framing to protect this fine Korean design as a national treasure. I look at this lovely watercolor by Hoe Won and see a depth of wisdom regarding nature and that this is a reflection of what is possible by great artists of all nationalities. Kubota KH15 track hoe excavator
Up for auction today is a Kubota KH15 excavator. It is a 24 hp 3 cylinder diesl. The hour meter shows about 3000 plus hrs. but is not working. I think the year is 1984 but not for sure. It has a 4ft blade. Steel tracks, and a 24 inch bucket. The pins are loose and everything wiggles. The track adjuster is nuts and bolts and stuck. With someone good at bolts, they could probably loosen. I have not tried much. The seat has been replaced and the machine operates with levers. A couple of the cylinders leak and could use new seals. It has 2 traveling speeds and the foot lever sticks a little, but you just pull it back. I bought the machine from someone who painted it and that was it. It is an older machine and sold as is. That being said the machine is a good little digger. It is good for personal use around the farm and is WAY better than digging ... moreany hole by hand. Engine runs well. Hydraulics are strong enough to dig in the hard clay soil and pick up some good sized rocks. I think the machine weighs about 9000 lbs. I used it to dig up large rocks 20-400lbs, dig around the farm, and plant trees. I have dug utility trenches 200 plus feet long, deep holes in pond basin, and foundation for building. The excavator is pretty in paint and a bit worn but still has some good use left in it. In short the machine runs ok, digs ok, and is older and well used. It could use some tlc and is not perfect. Width across tool head is 90. The hoe/cultivator is stamped and pressed from sheet steel. The elegantly shaped handle is turned from ash. Cleaned and polished- in nice used condition. Much of the original red paint finish is intact. The handle has a lovely"tiger stripe" grain and is silky smooth from years of use and wear. Up for auction today is a Caterpillar 416D backhoe loader with only 3.012 hours! This is as new as it gets without buying it directly from a dealer(and paying the new price tag! This machine has been meticulously maintained and runs and operates like new. This is the most sought after and desirable model of this machine available and this one has all of the"bells and whistles" Everything on this machine works as it should- lights. Gauges, flashing strobe light, 4-way(warning) flashers, fan, a/c controls etc. The only exception is the parking brake- the lever works and the brake cable looks fine. It may need adjustment, though.
