From about 1914, has to be one of the very first electric hearing aids ever. The operating principle is pretty simple. It employs a Carbon Button type"transmitter" Whose electrical resistance changes as sound hits the diaphragm. A battery applies a voltage across the transmitter and a sensitive headphone is wired in series with the transmitter and the battery. The change in resistance of the transmitter causes a varying current to be produced in the earphone. The gain of the device is limited only by the applied voltage. Which is controlled by the rheostat, the chrome device on the wires to the headphone. This hearing aid is complete with the transmitter/headphone in one ... morepiece. An extension holder and carrying case. The on spring switch is broken off but is in the box. I tested the entire hearing aid system with a power supply and it does not seem to work. However. This is a great piece of history. It's amazing what they did without tubes or transistors 100 years ago! Cosmetically. This looks unused, except for the broken switch spring I mentioned above.
