The on light is magnificent when lit! I tested the machine and it heats up(both halves) the crank also turns smoothly. The machine is in great shape and looks to be all original. I have up for sale a high quality vintage original circa 1950s or there abouts DOMKE& ULM MFG CO Chicago. Ill hat stretcher. The form heats up gradually over a few minutes time. The screw turns easily and smoothly, creates proper tension. The form opens up as you turn the screw. When turned on the red plastic facet jewel front lights up and glows also there is a white light from under the form. It is in Excellent Cosmetic Condition- some normal minor light wear as one would expect with an older object of this type. But any wear is quite light- it looks great. There are no breaks. No cracks, no repairs, etc. It works great! It measures approx 16" long. 6" wide, and 13" tall. Made of metal and weighs roughly 15 lbs 8 ounces as you see it. N.Y.C. Cast iron base and inside of dome. The exterior covering is a metal that does not attract a magnet, and it has a brass handle. Mounted on a wood board base, it has the original makers black on brass ID tag with the Hat Sizing Gauge on it. This machine sized and blocked both Men's and Women's hats. Turning the brass handle opens or closes the dome form. It turns easily at some stages, harder at others- likely needs some lubrication.
