Up for bids is a pair of Vintage Ornate Otis Elevator Hall Call Plates. Each is marked"IN USE" They each have a space for one pushbutton. The"IN USE" inserts are glass. Each has the lettering etched out from the reverse. These etchings are filled with a black plastic resin, some of which has chipped out. It can be easily replaced with some epoxy or black caulk. Each plate bears the following number: 1762SW4. The Call Plates are each clean and in excellent condition. These two plates were used on the top floor or on the bottom most floor, where only one direction was available for travel. They therefore received less use and each elevator used only two regardless of the number of floors. Each is very ornate and has an early 1900's Victorian look. They probably came from an old hotel. I made no attempt to clean them, ... morebesides a quick dusting. Each Call Plate has a tiny bit of paint at the long edges from years of paintwork over and over back in the day. The front of each piece has a solid brass panel with two buttons each marked Up or Down. The back of this piece is marked with DA3341 stamped into the metal. Antique Cast Bronze Elevator Call Button Housing Elaborate and large neoclassic Beaux Art projecting call button wall plate. Covered in decorative motifs from the acanthus leaf bracket base to the arched stylized honeysuckle crown. The call buttons are covered in mother of pearl. The interior mechanism appears to be intact. Salvaged from an unknown Chicago building and dating from the turn of the last century. This call button housing exhibits the florid neoclassic design sensibility popularized at the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exhibition. Marks; no markings. Typical of architectural elements. This Vintage Brass Shepard Elevator Call Button Plate Cover is in excellent condition. The brass is heavy with no scratches or dents. The plate could use a good shining up with some Brasso if you wish. The dimensions are 3 1/4" wide by 6 3/4" tall and 3 1/4" between button holes. Center line to center line. See pictures. Unique& HEAVY! You see indicators- look at those prices. 9" wide X 12 1/2" High X 2 1/2" deep. Front plate is 1/2" thick brass or bronze under gold paint look at pictures. Key turns but I cant get it to open box. 4 jewels. 2 red 2 white. 1 red and 1 white are cracked- again see pictures. You don't see them with the jewels they are always missing. Pearl up button.Raised font UP and Down is over 1/2" H and other words 1/2" font. Great decorator piece for office. Study, den elevator person. Try to find another one! FABULOUS ELEVATOR FLOOR INDICATOR CAST IRON & BRASS(?) WITH CALL BUTTON PLAQUE
Offered here are the two items shown. Both removed from a freight elevator first-floor entrance in the J.B. Van Sciver building(seven stories) in Camden, NJ in the 1980's. The floor indicator is 11x17 inches, and no more than an inch deep. It is cast iron with a gold-color coating. The numerals look like brass. We see no damage or condition issues of any kind except for some tiny dings in the color. The arrow can be adjusted by loosening a new nut holding it from the rear. The call button plaque is 2.75x7.75 inches, showing more wear with the gold coloring and made of a much lighter metal. The buttons are original. Hard to believe this elaborate and attractive indicator was for a freight elevator. But the owner had removed it himself. It's a beauty, and in great shape!
