Here for auction is a vintage storage box marked Western Electric. On the bottom is stamped 200. Box measures approx. 12 x 10.5 x 6.5” Beautiful construction as shown. On the inside of the hinged top is a label and schematic. Label states that this was for a 20C Test Set. It may have been for a phone or receiver or something of that nature. The leather carrying strap broke years ago but part is still inside the box. Hinges and hasps work great. Great early Western Electric. This was an estate sale item. Western Electric 107B Test Set. Serial No. 1123, Made In U.S.A. It is from the 1950s era. There is a metal plate inside where“Return for Retest” dates are recorded. There are two dates shown, 9-57 and 11-58. The case measures apx 8” x 12” x 5” when closed. It is rather heavy causing s/h cost to be on the high side. I am not familiar with this type of equipment. So cannot guarantee whether it is complete or whether it works. There is a hand crank on the outside of the case that appears to operate properly. This auction is for an antique WESTERN ELECTRIC lineman test telephone Butt set. This appears to be in very good cosmetic condition and I don't know why it wouldn't still work right. The phone was patented in 1903 model 1 A and 131W70 on the earpiece. It is all nickel or brass chrome plated with minor brassing on the ear piece. The mouth and ear pieces have all nice black bakelite in good condition. There is a little spring loaded switch near the earpiece probably used for listening and talking. The early models of this machine had a cloth cord and this connection cord appears to be original with the wire size and numbers listed as 18/2 and 5V and 300V. On the end of the cord I put newer alligator clips the old ones were missing. I also have a larger bake lite mouth piece I will include marked 634A. I will provide more photos. It is actually quite large measuring 18 inches wide by 13 1/2 inches deep by about 7 inches tall" to the top of the cast iron handle" The over all condition is pretty decent with some expected wear, and I also see the one alligator clip is loose from the wire. This test instrument is quite intricate and would make a fine addition to any early electric scientific instrument collection. Model 17C, manufactured by the Western Electric Company of Chicago, Illinois, and used by Central Maine Power Company line crews before the adoption of portable radios. The telephone set is contained in a rectangular wooden box, with a hinged front panel and a buckled leather carrying strap, now torn. Three binding posts and a bakelite knob are mounted on the top of the test set; stamped text on the wooden plate labels the posts”L” B” and”LR” stamped text labels the knob positions as”Talk& Listen” Open” and”Listen Only” A single bakelite earpiece is wired to the left-hand side of the test set; an aluminum crank with a bakelite knob on the right-hand ... moreside of the test set controls the internal magneto. The text”Western Electric, Made in U.S.A. 515” is stamped into the back of the earpiece. The front panel of the test set has an inset microphone with a perforated aluminum faceplate. A painted”Western Electric” logo appears above the microphone. The model number”17C” is stamped into the base of the test set.
