Apparently during the"War Years" the government mandated that paint brush could only be 55% natural bristles and the remaining 45% had to be synthetic. This great find is a NEW old stock. Unused"PURDY'S'Good' BRUSHES" size 6"Blackbird" Flatting Brush. Still in its original box and packaging-with tag and"important information for the user or seller"it is in excellent condition! Someone has used clear tape on 3 of the corners of the box to preserve its shape. This brush was most likely from the 1940's/50's. The Purdy Brush Company was(and is still) located in Portland. Oregon. They took great pride in their brushes-even"scolding" those who mis-handled the brushes in the form of a"warning" label on the top of the boxes! Pretty entertaining! The"Blackbird" was advertised as the top of the line of the"flatting" brushes: the Blackbird costs painters less per square yard of painting done than any of the many ... morebrushes made to imitate it! The box measures approximately 6 1/2" wide. 12 1/4" long, and 1 7/8" deep. The brush itself measures approximately 6 1/4" across the widest part and 12" from the tip of the handle to the end of the bristles.
