Bruel Kjaer 4165 microphone with wooden box, no calibration report.
For sale is one Bruel Kjaer 4165 microphone with wooden box. But no calibration report. The sheet in the box is not for this microphone. Diaphragm is in good condition. Not dent or tear, but certainly not shiny. I have used this microphone and one 4133 microphone(not included in the sale) to measure the same noise source. A steady air blow-off gun. The measured sound levels from 4165 are 10.9 dB to 11.6 dB higher than those from 4133(from 1 kHz to 16 kHz, 1/3 octave bands) You can notice that the variations of only 0.7 dB in this frequency range. The calibration report(for 4133) indicates that the sensitivity of 4133 is-38.1 dBV/pa. If this sensitivity is still valid(from 1970s) This 4165 should have a sensitivity between-27.2 to-26.5 dBV/pa(based on my measurements) The difference between these 2 microphones at 20 kHz is 9.7 dB. This is a 1" measuring microphone designed for free-field measurements. It is my own microphone which I have used from new. I have used it in the past for acoustic surveys in broadcasting studios where the low noise floor was useful. It was bought in 1989. Please note this is a specialist measuring microphone for sound level meters and analysers. It requires a suitable pre-amplifier that provides 200 V polarising voltage. Usually it will also require a 1/2" to 1" adaptor. But it could also be suitable for vintage sound level meters designed to use 1" microphones. Supplied in the original box with original calibration certificate and plastic cover. I have recently checked this microphone with a calibrator. This auction is for a CEL-250 Precision Condenser Microphone Capsule. The microphone capsule can form part of a Type 1 compliant sound measurement system. Just the same as any Bruel& Kjaer, Norsonic, Rion etc equivalent. The specs seem to be equivalent to the following Bruel& Kjaer microphone capsules: 4155, 4176, 4189, 4940 and 4950. This particular microphone capsule is optimised for free-field sound. This is an electret microphone. So does not require a prepolarisation voltage- applying a prepolarisation voltage of 200V will destroy it. So don't do it! But the diaphragm is in good condition, and I have no reason to believe that this does not work properly. The model CA-4 accepts input signals directly from any accelerometer. It has a sensitivity range between 1-99.9 pC/g to provide a standard normalised output signal of 10 mV/g. A digital'g' meter displays the output signal level of any one of the selected channels either in'g' peak or'g' rms acceleration units. An auto monitor facility displays each selected channel sequentially for approximately eight seconds; if during this time an acceleration level exceeds the pre-set limit.
