In spring of 1967 the recently-elected Governor of California. Ronald Reagan, slashed the budget of the public schools. Teachers were not inclined to take this quietly. The CFT pulled together a coalition of other unions, students and community organizations, and led a march of 10,000 education supporters in Sacramento. Governor Reagan had refused an invitation to address the demonstration held on the Capitol steps; but he made a dramatic surprise appearance, surrounded by bodyguards. As the Governor appeared, CFT vice-president Miles Myers and a few other desperate CFT leaders held off an angry crowd from storming the platform. While the march failed to generate an influx of school funding, it built teacher morale. The positive publicity for the CFT was enormous among teachers all across the state; and the Governor was put on notice that he faced vocal opposition. I bought a folder filled with scores of 8 by 10 inch NASA photos at an estate sale this weekend in San Francisco. And have decided to sell them in groups- the logic of which I hope will become apparent. First up is this group of photos released by NASA to introduce the groups of astronauts as they were chosen. Three of the photos have official NASA credits on the back. Whereas the first photo(of the first two groups chosen) does not. Not sure why- but I have no doubt it is real- a genuine vintage item. Up for bids are two authentic Apollo 17 Letters and one sticker. One letter is from the Apollo 17 Crew to the KSC Team(Kennedy Space Center) It is dated November 14. 1972. It is autopen signed by Eugene A. Cernan, Harrison H. Schmitt, and Ronald E. Evans. According to"Astronaut Autopen Guide" Cernan uses Autopen Pattern 3, Evans uses Autopen Pattern 1, and Schmitt uses Autopen Pattern 1. The letter is on NASA letterhead and paper(it has a watermark when held up to the light) The second letter is from CISS Project on behalf of the Apollo Astronauts to Team Members. It is dated November 20. 1972. This letter is on ITT Letterhead. There is a little rust from the paperclip on the back of this letter. All were neatly framed and I'm offering them as found. Interestingly, the man that passed must have served his country well as three presidents sent him correspondence. The most recent I believe.
