Rare Vintage American Optical First Aid Kit Eyeglass & Scientific Instrument Co
For Auction. From my own collection of stuff, one Vintage First Aid Box from the American Optical Company, Southbridge, Ma. This rare example is in wonderful condition, the paint is very good with only minor spots of rust or paint loss. The interior is like new without the contents. Approximate box measurements are 9 inches long x 6 1/2 inches high x 2 1/2 inches deep. This first aid box once hung on the walls of the American Optical Factory, an industry manufacturing leader of of scientific instruments and optical goods. I had my choice of 2 boxes when I acquired this one in Massachusetts years ago, this was the nicer of the 2. I have not seen one for sale before or since! Up for auction is a vintage pair of 1950's cat eye eyeglasses. They have bi-focal glass lenses that measure 1-3/8 inches high and 1-3/4 inches wide. Hinge to hinge the frames measure 5 inches. The black bakelite frames have silver flowers on the front corners and on the bows. The nose bridge is marked 20, AO, 1/10 12K GF. The bow is marked 4-1/4- 5-1/2, American Optical. Vintage American Optical AO Polaroid Adjustable Welding Safety Goggles Glasses
Up for sale is a Vintage Pair of American Optical Polaroid Welding Safety Goggles. The front is made of plastic and the back is rubber. It has double lenses on each side which darken on the turn of the knob. The colors change from clear/ light brown to pink. They are in good condition, the front plastic looks like it has a repaired crack on it, the rest looks great, the lenses adjust nice and smooth. American Optical Co lenses and cards kit. Made of leather bound wood. It's 10" x 6" x 2 3/8" Has 39 lenses and a tool that fits in a slot near front latch-see lower right 2nd photo. A panel unbuttons in upper lid to expose a storage space for cards and spare parts- see 3rd photo. Along with cards(see last photos) there are two wax paper envelopes holding spare parts. The leather on top of case is in good shape, but the thinner leather around the sides of kit have deterioration. Applying mink oil has stopped this deterioration in its tracks. ANTIQUE ~ 1920's ~ AMERICAN OPTICAL ~"WELLSWORTH" EYEGLASSES ~ ZYLONITE SPECTACLE FRAMES This is a nice set of antique eyeglasses made by American Optical/ Wellsworth. The development of the optical and eyewear manufacturing industry in America started in the early part of the nineteenth century. Prior to this time. Optical frames and lenses were imported from Europe, mainly from France, Germany and England. Metal frames were also produced by local jewelry manufacturers as well as other specialty metal workers. The quantities. However, were limited to private demand for singularly custom made frames. The name"Wellsworth" was a common AO(American Optical) trademark at the time. Honoring the name of George Washington Wells. Who founded the company. These glasses are called"Zylonite Spectacle Frames" with"skull ... morefit" temples according to the vintage Wellsworth catalog I found on line. I have included pictures from the AO catalogue for your reference. The ads are not included in the auction. Zylonite" is also known as"cellulose acetate" which is a very early form of plastic first discovered in 1865. The most commonly used plastic in eyeglass frames. Cellulose acetate is relatively inexpensive, easy to work with, and comes in a wide variety of colors, textures, and patterns. The material is easily adjusted but tends to get brittle with age. These glasses do seem to have some sort of corrective lens in them. The lenses are scratch free and in nice condition. The frames are also in nice original condition. I examined them closely and I can find no cracks. There are light use marks from handling and wearing the glasses. The temple arms freely move in and out with no resistance. Unlike modern glasses that are tight the temple arms on these glasses are rather loose and easily folded in or out. The temple arms also have some up and down movement. I don't know if that's how they were originally or if the hinges need to be tightened. I did not attempt to do so.

WWII Era American Optical Aviator's with Unusual Amber Lenses Lot
I purchased these great old glasses from the estate of a WWII veteran. There is very slight scratching on the right lens. One of the legs is broken. The leather case is in perfect condition and still has it's original paper label inside. There is some slight corrosion spots on the chrome plating around the lenses as can be seen in the pictures.
