Our signs are put onto salvaged lumber and or beachcombed wood we find after winter and spring storms that have washed lumber and other wood debris onto the beaches. We also use reclaimed wood that was destined for the landfill. We did sand all the edges to make sure there were no bad slivers or ruff spots and to give it that worn look. The newly cut ends have been painted and sanded to give them a matching worn look like the rest of the wood sign. It can be rested against a wall on a shelf or you could screw these to the wall or post also. Some of the wood is cracked. Warped and worn from salt water and sand blowing on it. It measures 5' x 9-1/2' and was made by the Valley Forge Flag Company. Because of its length. And because how perfect it fit in the box, I chose not to unfold it and take a picture of it. I was worried that I would not be able to refold it exactly the way that it is now. The flag is machine stitched with separately appliquéd stars. Overall the flag is in very good condition. The story is my grandfather, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and former WWII Navy, went on a bus tour to the American Legion, I'm not sure where, but is was some time in the early 70's. After the tour during a long night of drinking, smoking, and swapping war stories, a bunch of US Vets grabbed a hack saw and cut down the flag pole and gave the flag to my grandfathers group in the tour, pole and all. They must have been really drunk not to notice that the pole simply unscrewed. Ah the good old days. Somehow my grandfather ended up with it cut pole and all. I came into possession of it after his passing. And have held on to it for nearly a decade, rolled up and tucked away. Now I feel that it is time ... morefor this Flag to fly in it's own country again by someone who will take pride in it, and it's unique history. It's a 3 X 5 foot vertical hanging style manufactured by the Martin Flag Company and its an"A" class. It's machine sewn made of Bulldog Bunting moth proof 2 ply cotton. WW2 Iwo Jima veterans flag!! Wool, 48 Star, War Flag, No Reserve Auction!!
American Flag 48 star. This flag was given to me by my grandfather who was a Marine on Iwo Jima. He was in the 28th Marines 5th div as a radioman. I don't have confirmation and am not able to get whether this flag was actually on Iwo Jima, but it is the flag he brought back with him. This is a piece of History.
