Price reduced on 1/1/14.and again on 3/31. For your consideration I am offering this antique section of wrought iron fence.may have even been a gate section?very heavy and it took a couple of people to load this.I would estimate it to weigh at least 200 pounds.the upright posts are a whopping 1 1/16" square and there are a couple of pieces that are 2 1/16" x 1 1/16"Due to age I can't tell if a couple of the posts have been repaired or if this was just made this way.I think 3 of the posts look like they were connected and it would have been done many years ago.a tip on one of the decorative pices on top is broken off but it is small and could be ground to resemble the others if wanted.I am going to offer this complete and if it doesn't sell I may end up cutting it up and offering in small lots for the blacksmiths/knife ... moremakers.I saw where someone is selling lots of 12 pounds for $25- $30.with the weight this could part out to make 16 or more lots of 12 pounds and at $25- $30 a lot this could bring $400- $480.I would prefer to see this purchased and used in a garden setting because it really is neat looking. Antique cast Iron Balusters 1920's; 4 copper coated 31" posts reclaimed wrought
These are really beautiful historic antique pieces reclaimed from an interior stair railing of a public school near Pittsburgh PA. We have personally used elements from this rail for several projects making railings. Gates, and even a head board for a bed. The possibilities are endless. We are listing two matching sets of these posts, along with other elements that have been separated from the original railing. Originally these were all attached to the railing by screws so the tops and bottoms are tapped. About half of the screws are broke off and would have to be drilled and retapped. Or they can be welded onto steel. It doesn't weld as nice as modern steel but it still finishes pretty good-if you know what you're doing. It had a lot of white and green paint chipping off. That scraped or brushed off easily. By wire brushing the black ... morelooking tarnish comes off and the pieces start to show their original bright copper finish. They must have used some sort of dip or electroplating method. It still shines through after all these years. I'm basing the age on the architecture of the building in which they were reclaimed. It was out of a really magnificent public school building that had been built in the 20's and sat empty for decades until it was recently renovated. This lot salvaged from an 1880's Brownstone includes fou r newel posts. Three railings 114" 100" and 80" long. There are 30 thirty inch tall spindles/balusters(stair railings) and 13 twenty six inch tall spindles/blausters(landing railing) I have included a photo where I easily scratched off the paint to show the natural color and grain. Which appears to be oak. Part of the lot was for the stair railing, the rest for the landing railing. I will also send 2 or 3 other spindles which were broken. Here is a dealer display box containing 4 individual green plastic lamp posts. Each in their own box. The Dealer Box is complete with all flaps attached. The individual boxes have all of their flaps attached as well These boxes date from around 1948 to 1949 when Lionel introduced the GG1. The earlier green boxes with the GGI date from 1948. There are Lionel like boxes that are Orange. Black and white that were adopted around 1950. There are yellow oriented boxes that Colber adopted after pressure from Lionel and were used from 1951 to 1954. Each Lamp Post is about 6 1/8 inch tall. From the 1 1/2 inch diameter round base, to the top of the white plastic globe. Each lamp lights and has two long wires to hook to a source of power. These lamps will work with Lionel. Marx, American Flyer and others. The founders of the company began repairing ... moreLionel trains in 1946 as a Lionel Service Station. Their business grew and the became Trains of America. A major Lionel distributor on the East Coast. Because of the inability to obtain stock from Lionel during this period they began to manufacture Lamp Posts, Beacons, Automatic Gatemen, etc in 1948. They also produced a line for A.C. Gilbert as well. With intense urging of Lionel they were forced to sell their business in 1954. Louis Marx bought their business at that time. The owners continued to work in other areas. So these lamp posts only span a period of 6 years. These Lamp Posts come in a dealer display box that is 6 1/2 inches wide. By about 7 inches long, by 1 inches high. The box is Green. The Colber Corporation is listed in East Orange, New Jersey on these green boxes. Later, when the Lionel like boxes came out, the company listed its address as Irvington, New Jersey, which was the city where Lionel's large plant was located. The Dealer box has some tape on it. These lamps have been used but very little. The boxes are complete and not easy to obtain in this condition. These items really make this set very scarce as these items were discarded after use. All have three mounting holes in the base. There are no major flaws, Some light wear and patina/tarnish can be found throughout. Two of the poles have very small dents on the top. And a spring-loaded brake shoe design which applies a constant force to 1/2 inch(12.7 mm) diameter optical posts even when the thumbscrew is loosened.
