The set is of melon shape with shaped and ridged lines. All three pieces have chased scroll leaves and flowers aroudn the top rim. The teapot has a superb chased finial above the domed lid and a lovely chased acanthus leaf to the top of the handle. All three pieces stand on four chased scroll leaf feet. The teapot is just under 11-1/2 inches/ 298 mm wide from the spout to the back of the handle. It is 6 inches/ 150 mm deep and stands 6-3/4 inches/ 171 mm high. Vintage Porcelain 3 Piece Vanity Set - Charleton Roses Decoration!
This auction is for a vintage porcelain 3 piece vanity set with a Charleton Roses decoration with pink and blue mist highlights. This set was imported and hand painted by skilled artists in the New York City studios of Abels. Wasserberg& Co. AWCO) in the mid to late 1940s. AWCO was the premier hand decorating studio in America from 1942-1967 and used the best glass and ceramic blanks for their decorations from a wide variety of companies. We believe the blanks used for this set originated in Italy. This is a very scarce Charleton vanity set. We have only seen a couple of other examples in over 15 years of collecting and researching Charleton. The bottles are 7 3/4" high x 3" wide. Both bottles free from any chips. Cracks, crazing, repairs, etc.The china paint is in good condition with only light fading after 60 years. The gold ... moreleaf details and trim are in very good condition being about 85% intact. There is some dark staining on the bottles and the puff box in some areas- it appears to be nicotine and will come off with cleaning- I removed some of it but I will leave the remainder for the new owner to remove. The original Charleton labels are intact on both bottles, AWCO#4086. The puff box stands 5" high x 4 1/2" wide. The blue mist paint has faded on the top of the lid but it still displays well. The gold leaf on the lid is also worn being about 60% intact. The bottom is in much better shape with good blue mist and 95% intact gold leaf details. The box also has its original Charleton label. AWCO#4087. PLEASE NOTE: You will never be charged a handling fee but you will be required to pay the actual postage and insurance fees. A bowl and a plate that feature Susan Isbelle that tell a little story in the pictures on the dinnerware. The mug is approximately 3 1/4-inches tall and 2 3/4-inches in diameter at the rim with a pink line around the top and bottom of the mug with a small bunny painting a picture on the front and back of the mug. The plate is approximately 7-inches in diameter at the pink trimmed rim and in the center of the plate is the small bunny showing her/his mom the picture that she/he painted. The bowl is approximately 1 3/4-inches deep and 5 1/2-inches in diameter at the salmon trimmed rim and inside of the bowl is the small bunny sitting at a table eating with her/his art in the background where her/his ... moremom hung it up on the wall. The pieces are rimmed in gold gilt. As can be seen by picture one the handled spoon covers the chip on the lip of the bowl and the chip which is it specifically covering is picture six. The ladle has the same flower and foliage hand painted on. The three footed bowl stands 3" tall and the top circumference is 4 3/4" The plate is 6" in circumference. The accompanying ... moreladle is 3 1/2" long and the bowl is 1 3/4" in circumference. From research I believe this set was originally manufactured to serve as a mayonnaise dish. However, my first instinct was to see it as a wonton soup bowl due to the structure of the spoon. I could be entirely wrong but I think this Nippon piece is a reproduction opposed to being an original. If you have any questions please do not hesitate in asking me. With 3 pieces assembled- it is 9 feet 6 inches and made of Bamboo. I do not know what weight it is. Other than ONE EYE missing on the bottom section All 4 sections are in perfect condition. I'm sure an avid fishing person can put the missing eye on. The handle is wrapped with a strong type string/twine. All eyes are wrapped and secure. The twine on the handle has a stain of some sort as seen in the photo. The reel can easily be attached to the handle. Nothing bent or missing on the handle. Don't pass this one up! The Plate is in very good condition however has a small piece of paint that has flakes on the rim. This is shown in the picture of the plate. The Tea cup is in fair condition for it has 1 deficiency and that is a 3/4" chip along the surface of the cup. It does not effect the integrity of the cup and still can be used for use as well as display and would not be noticed. This is a rare find and is a once and a lifetime purchase. Don't miss out.
