As you can see it's not in the best shape cosmetically but the majority of it is just paint which can be easily removed/repainted. How does this tool work? Each tool is designed for use in a specific bore ground to create a sliding fit. The tool will be fitted with a milling cutter. Which mills a slot to full width and depth as it passes into or through the bore. This is done in one pass. The cutter is rotated by a series of driving pins, which ... moreengage the back of the cutter teeth. The pins are fitted into a spindle, which chucks into your machine such as a drill press, vertical mill, radial drill, etc. Our tool then passes into or through your part and mills a slot to your specifications. One pass and the keyway is complete. 2. Is lubrication needed? Yes. As much as possible. We highly suggest a flood coolant over the entire tool in operation and gravity oil into the spindle and head area. The more lubrication present, the better the operation. 3. Can the keyseat miller run horizontally in a lathe? Yes it can. But we would suggest running the tool vertically. This allows gravity to let the chips fall away from the milling cutter. If you need to run the tool horizontally, run pressured flood coolant down the slot as it is cut. Also use a steady rest to support the tool as it operates. 4. Can the keyseat miller be run on CNC equipment? Yes. But as with manual equipment, we must hold the miller body stationary as the spindle rotates inside.
