There is a calibration seal on this unit which is still intact so I did not open it up. I took a few pictures so you can see the grid and the locator light dot which seems to be functioning fine. This 502a oscilloscope is selling as-is. I took the 1st 2 pics with it powered up. So It does power up and the fan works. I Have no idea if it is running as it should because I have no clue on how it works. At the very least it should be great for parts. Knobs are in good condition. You are buying the unit ONLY. I would say what I am offering but I dont really know. This was given to me from a wife that was clearing some stuff out from her husband. He was taking an electronic career path in his younger days. The only thing I know is. When I plug it it, the power comes on. It is untested from there as I have no clue whaat to do. There was some foam inside the lid that has become less then stable over the years and has put a weird residue on the cables but did not get on the unit itself. The Tektronix Type 503 is a monolithic oscilloscope introduced in 1960 specializing in X-Y mode but also containing a sweep circuit. It features two identical phase matched amplifiers with true differential inputs. The scope has a bandwidth specification of 450 kHz and sensitivity to 1mV per centimeter. The 503 and 504 were low priced scopes for their time but provided the same quality and precision of their higher handwidth siblings. The standard version 503 utilized a P2 phosphor CRT that provides a slightly longer trace decay time for ease of photographing the display. A large market for the scope was in electronics labs of educational institutions. The differential inputs are useful for entry level students to experiment with observing voltages not referenced to ground. Up for bidding is the Sylvania Type 300 Oscilloscope Calibrating Standard. The Calibrating Standard is in good condition. It is very clean and appears little used. The front panel is nice and all the lettering. Logos and numerals are clear and there is no chipping or worn areas. Switches, Knobs, binding posts and jacks on the front are all clean originals. The chrome handle on the top is also nice. The line cord is the original, it appears a new plug has been added. The tubes within are tested and each is OK. The unit was carefully powered up on a variac to about 100 VAC-the panel lamp lights up as does the tube filaments. The unit was no otherwise tested. Tektronix Type 453 oscilloscope: 50 MHz dual trace scope and compensating probe. Probe is 10 Meg. 7.0 PF, 9.0 FT, 600V. Knobs and switches appear to work although not extensively tested in all combinations. The pictures are of the actual unit. The three wave form pictures were generated using a Heathkit AS10 signal generator. They are a 1.0 MHz. 100KHz and 1kHz square wave(channel A) and sine wave(channel B) The distortion in the square wave results from the quality of the AS10, and the frequency span was limited by the AS10. I have used this scope for more than ten years and am downsizing a little. It is in good cosmetic shape and nothing appears to be missing. Heathkit Vintage Oscilloscope O 6 type
This oscilloscope works when plugged in. I wanted to point out this came from a very large electronics estate where many of the electronics were modified. As you can see in the pictures the unit has been modified and has a larger viewing screen installed. I am not an electronics person so all I can tell you is the scope works when plugged in and the screen changes from an oval light to a horizontal line when the dials are turned. This may or may not be an O 6 model but the unit looks almost identical to other o6 pictures I have seen.
