Vintage US Navy OS-8G/U Oscilloscope Scope -- VERY CLEAN needs minor repairs
You are bidding on a super clean US Navy OS-8G/U oscilloscope in partial working order. The OS-8GU is the last(and in my opinion the best) of the series of OS-8 scopes built for the Navy in the 1950's and early 1960's. This little scope measures just 14 inches by 7 inches by 9 inches and weighs under 15 pounds. It comes in a solid aluminum case(last photo) with shock mounts inside(photo 1) The scope uses a 3RP1 CRT. But unlike the earlier versions the OS-8G/U is otherwise entirely solid state. It is simply beautifully constructed(photo 3) The side panels open with four screws to allow quick access to the inside for adjustment or repairs. Under a hinged back panel are jumpers that allow very versatile connections to the CRT deflection electrodes(photo 4) The controls are very well laid out(photo 2) This particular OS-8G/U is serial ... morenumber A542. Built by Philadelphia Scientific Controls for the Navy(photo 6) Cosmetically this one is in near mint condition(see photos) Hardly a mark on it. This scope generates a clear bright trace when fed by external signals. But there is something wrong with the horizontal amplifier circuit. As the horizontal position control is turned to move the trace from the left side of the screen to the right side, the trace first shrinks to zero width in the middle, then expands as a reflection on the right side of the center line. The built-in sweep is also not working, probably due to the same cause. The vertical amplifier is working perfectly. I've seen this kind of problem in other scopes, and it's not too hard to repair. I believe the manual for this scope can be found on the web, but I do not have one. If you are looking for a really well built small portable analog scope for servicing electronic equipment that doesn't require a high bandwidth. This is an excellent choice. Neat little Battery powered O'scope. Quite useful in the right conditions. Runs fine on the AC adapter provided as well. This is the Velleman HPS40 which has been in my cabinet empty of batteries for several years now. Low Hours on it. Comes with an unused carry cover. A good hard case, ac transformer(600ma) scope probe, adapter to BNC-F, RS-232 to 9 pin d-shell, manual. 2nd& 3rd pictures show it powered by battery. Fouth shows battery compartment is clean. In the one set of pictures you can see ... morethe power light is on, the internal light is one, the scope had the green dot on it, and the tubes were lit up.then the fuse blew on the back(I left the fuse in the back for the winning bidder to make it easy to match a new one) I have no idea how to oporate so maybe I did something wrong or the radio tubes need replaced or something. The manual is available online for free and it says if the fuse blows it is either: Shorted AC line on the primary side, defective rectifier tubes, defective filter capacitor, or short in filament connection, should be a somewhat easy fix for someone who nows how to do it. I did put in a second fuse and it stayed on longer, but blew again. As you can see from the pictures of the inside, it is nice and clean and all wires appear to be in tact.can't see any reason for it to not work with a little tlc. All the knobs look great, no cracks or anything that I can see and they all appear to move properly. The screen has no cracks and very minimal wear. The metal ring around the screen is a bit worn as you can see in the photo but honestly comes off pretty easy, a little spray paint and it would look brand new. I have no idea how to hook something up

Nice and clean metal body and it has that awesome"hammered metal" paint job that was very popular, I love the paint job on this thing: Not finding a Manufacturer anywhere, might be on the inside. it does say MODEL TR 35-1 on the front corner. On the back it is marked R S Swavely June 1968 Astig and this is engraved intot he metal on the bottom of the case as well(we are thinking this was the owner at one point) Can't see any reason for it to not work but as with anything electrical and old, we suggest you have it checked by a professional electrician for safety. The cord looks fine, no wierd smells or anything when running, just a nice looking machine that someone obviously took good care of. All the knobs look great, no cracks or anything that I can see and they all appear to move properly. The screen has no cracks either. I have no idea how to hook something up to this or if its calibrated it. Only the power cord is

This auction is for a Heathkit model IOW-10 Oscilloscope. 55 page Manual in PDF form will be emailed to winning bidder(manual is not for sale) The"W" in the model number means factory wired. But you probably already know that. Otherwise this is same as IO-10. This scope seems to be working fine and as the photos hopefully show. looks great! I replaced a couple of high voltage capacitors in the power supply( the orange ones in the close-up pic) Three tubes were missing so I replaced tubes: I used two-12AU7A RCA's and one rectifier 6X4 Mullard. One of the small black knobs bottom right. Horizontal centering control, has been touched by a soldering iron at some point and has a mark on it. I have had this scope for about a year and never noticed it until today, but want to mention here for accuracy. Very original. Even has original ... morepower cord and grey molded plug and the cord is still flexible and safe to use. Not stiff or cracked like most of them. Notice the original rubber feet too. Still in good shape. Pictures show some audio feed from a signal generator, this generator is NOT part of this auction. Just the scope and free pdf manual. Probes and Diet Cola NOT included.
