Whereas a non-storage scope can only display what happens after triggering. A digital storage scope can also display what happens before triggering, and this is its main advantage it's like a time machine. You can think of it as an endless loop recorder(like a cockpit voice recorder of an airplane) and you can look back any part of the loop you haven't re-recorded over.
