Tektronix Type 453 dual trace 50 MHz Oscilloscope
Tektronix Type 453 oscilloscope: 50 MHz dual trace scope and compensating probe. Probe is 10 Meg. 7.0 PF, 9.0 FT, 600V. Knobs and switches appear to work although not extensively tested in all combinations. The pictures are of the actual unit. The three wave form pictures were generated using a Heathkit AS10 signal generator. They are a 1.0 MHz. 100KHz and 1kHz square wave(channel A) and sine wave(channel B) The distortion in the square wave results from the quality of the AS10, and the frequency span was limited by the AS10. I have used this scope for more than ten years and am downsizing a little. It is in good cosmetic shape and nothing appears to be missing. The only issue I know of is that the plastic around the feet on the rear is cracked. Also include is a xerox copy of a Type 454 manual. The Type 453 and Type 454 are essentially the ... moresame. TEKTRONICS MODEL 453 DUAL CHANNEL OSCILLOSCOPE WITH PROBES AND COVER
The Tektronix 453 is a portable 50MHz dual-trace oscilloscope and produced until the mid-1970's. Initial versions had Nuvistor tubes in the front end as cathode-follower voltage buffers. Later versions used FETs for the same purpose. The vertical amplifier that drives the CRT deflection plates is a cascoded differential amplifier made of NPN transistors. Triggering uses. With a trigger preamplifier preceding the actual trigger circuit. The 453 is almost entirely solid-state, even in its first version. The only tubes other than the CRT are the HV rectifiers and a few Nuvistor triode tubes. Each horizontal deflection plate is driven by a common-emitter amplifier with feedback. The total CRT acceleration is 10kV. The CRT cathode voltage is-2kV and the CRT anode voltage is +8kV. Tektroniz TEK 453 oscilloscope and probe - tested
This is a working. Tested Tek 453 oscilloscope. It has not been recently calibrated, but all channel and trigger functions work. I have tried to take representative pictures showing traces on both channels and triggering in alt mode. I have also provided pictures showing the scale illumination and a relistic trance intensity in focus. One picture shows that the trace can be made much brighter(demonstrates the health of the CRT) but that intensity washed out the scale for practical use. I am including 2 non-original tek probes, a 6105 that works and is complete, and another 6000 series that DOES NOT WORK, but used to. perhaps there is a fix, perhaps not. You can see that the face and controls are clean and not abnormally scratched or dinged. The screen and cover are also in clean condition. I did not have an original mains cable, so I made ... moreone of a new extension cord and right angle socket- needs to be right angle to pass under and allow the scope to stand on its legs. Tektronix 453 50 MHz 2 Channel Oscilloscope Working- Exceeds Specs This Tektronix 453 oscilloscope is in good working condition. The pictures show a variety of signals. One picture shows a sine wave from an audio generator on Channel 1 and the scope's own calibrator signal on Channel 2. The pictures showing the terminated cable attached to Channel 1(the left input) show a 67 Mhz signal. A 67 MHz signal with the 5x magnifier turned on, and a 30 MHz signal. The pictures showing the terminated cable attached to Channel 2(the right input) show a 67 Mhz signal, a 67MHz signal with the 5x magnifier turned on, and a 30 MHz signal. I believe this scope exceeds specs because it is rated as a 50 MHz scope but as you see it works fine up to 67 MHz. Manuals and Tektronix catalogs describing this scope including all specifications are available on ... morethe web. and The cosmetic condition is also very good. As shown by the pictures. I included one picture of a circuit board- this scope was made with the highest quality materials. Including gold plated circuit board traces, at a time when American electronic products were the best in the world. In the 1969 Tektronix catalog this scope was listed for over $1900. This is a fairly late production scope. Serial number 28033. I checked and adjusted the power supply but did not run through the calibration procedure in the manual. The issues I noted: The fan motor does make some noise. There is no air filter material on the air intake- if you want to operate it in a dusty environment you should get a small piece of AC filter material. The little black tip is missing from one of the front panel toggle switches as shown in the picture. Will ship with the power cord and a CD with an excellent scan of the correct manual for 453 scopes with serial numbers over 20.000.
