Vintage Hocking Green Block Optic Goblet 9 oz. Uranium Depression Glass
This highly desirable goblet was made by the Hocking Glass Company of Lancaster. Ohio between 1929 and 1933. It is green, and is in the Block Optic pattern. It is bright and clear with no scratches, chips or flea bites. Block Optic was one of Hocking's best selling patterns. It was a full service dinnerware pattern with many serving pieces available. And was produced in a variety of colors. What makes the green ones a bit more desirable is that they are uranium glass(sometimes incorrectly referred to as Vaseline glass) This means that the glass was infused with a small amount of uranium when it was being cast. The coolest part about uranium glass is that it fluoresces under black light as shown in the photos! This goblet holds 9 ounces. And stands 5 3/4" tall. It measures 3 1/8" across the lip and 2 3/4" at the base.

Block optic 7 1/2" green 54 oz bulbous pitcher
Unfortunately it has a crack running down the side to below the handle attachment at the bottom and about 1/4" to the left of the area below the handle. I see no other damage so cannot figure how this happened unless it happened during manufacture? I filled it with water and left it set for 12 hours and it did not leak. No other damage to this pitcher which can be displayed very nicely by showing the good side.

This is a high quality piece of hand-made glass. The bowl is blown. The stem pressed and the foot cast and all the parts put together while the glass was hot. A beautiful example! The silver overlays were usually done by outside decorating companies. This one is marked Sterling but the decorating company is not shown. These were usually sold through jewelry and better department stores. The pitcher is about 8" tall. The pitcher is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks or other damage except for a few very minor scratches on the base as expected on a vintage item. See the close-up photos for more detail. I've added a few more photos in response to a buyer's question. I've also added my reply since I could not get get the automated reply form to accept my mark to post the question and reply. This is a beautiful pitcher in great condition but I rarely ... moredescribe vintage used items such as this as perfect since most of the glass of his era was not perfect when it came out of the factory. Silver overlays entail hand work and as such are subject to minor imperfections. I do not consider this damage but have taken additional photos. There is a small bump on the silver overlay on the lip. The silver overlay shows a brush stroke on the lip. The silver shows tarnish-I prefer not to polish silver overlay and will leave that to the buyer.
