Vintage Eastern European Faux Leather Desk Portfolio / Folder
Offered- A very unusual Eastern European Faux Leather Portfolio. The portfolio is a beautiful deep cordovan color- measuring 8 1/4 inches by 13 1/4 inches. There is a Coat of Arms embossed on th e front cover- with stylized decorations on each corner. The inside is covere d in white silk. There is a parchment folder that fits inside. It is held in place by a Red. White and Blue ribbon that is fixed to the inside of the seam. The parchment has a leather seal on a Red, White and Blue ribbon a t the bottom of the page(Photo#6) There is a gilt picture of two men(saints? embracing at the top of the page- surrounded by a very intricate borde r. The parch m e nt piece can be removed from the folder. I am not sure of the nationality of this p iece. nor am I sure if it is religious or politica l. There is a name embossed on the back of the piece(Photo#10) ... morebut I am unable to read it. The surface of the print looks just like a silver photograph but this is printed on thin cardboard. Hi! Selling my Mars Attacks Portfolio Of Roughs. Printed by Darkstar Marketing in 1980. In 1980. Darkstar Marketing produced a limited set of reprints of sketches called The Mars Attacks Portfolio of Roughs. They were pencil drawings done by Bob Powell& Wally Wood in the early stages of the infamous 1962 Mars Attacks card production. Some of the sketches made it to the final version of the card set; some did not. Some of the drawings depicted Martians with a third eye sticking out of the middle of their large brain-like forehead. Although not in the original cards. The"third-eye" Martians were to be seen later in the comic book series. My copy is stamped#1010 of 1200. This portfolio includes 9 pages of preliminary concepts from the Mars Attacks trading card set done in 1962. Measuring 8 3/4″ x 11 1/2″ in size. This item is in ... moregreat shape. The outside folder has some yellowing along the top 1/2" and some general wear along the edges. There are also some minor creases on the bottom back of the folder as well- please see pictures. The nine insert art sheets are on heavy paper and are in perfect crisp condition. The portfolio is from my personal collection and has been well-cared for over the years. I have seen very few of these sets which means those that have them are keeping them. If I worked for Douglas or were an aircraft fanatic I sure would! Nobody would get mine! The special prints are 18"x20. and it appears these were created in the early 50's for Douglas. Douglas used these as great public relations and collectibles that almost all the employees cherished. I know my father-in-law, a senior engineer at Douglas, almost cried as he remembered each of these wonderful aircraft. ... moreHe had told me stories about the DC-3(The workhorse) and I finally got to see one. Awesome when you consider the day it was created.What beautiful prints were created to capture these wonderful aircraft in time for us all. Obvious;y, Douglas has changed since then what with their name and all. The outer portfolio cover has certainly protected these prints. But not without a price. You can tell it was well used and opened often. What is so great about this collection of aircraft art is the fact that 21 of these prints are in EXCELLENT condition. The other two have marks on the margins(see photographs) but the prints themselves are still quite frameable. All the prints have very strong colors, and the art of Smith artistry is forever! I can assure you that the prints are quite striking and well worth bringing home. I love them and certainly wish I had been given the gifts that Mr. Ssmith displayed so perfectly. Look hard and you will want this set bad. They are that special! I will put this collection between two foam boards after I wrap everything. Madam Demorest's Illustrated Portfolio of the Fashions and What to Wear. 88 pages, autumn and winter 1889- 1890, women's, mens, children's and doll pattern illustrations, as you can see in the photos the front and back cover are very battered, detached from the spine with tears, small pieces missing, the magazine itself is in good condition, the first few pages of plates there are small stains which you can see in the 2nd photo. On page 55/56 there is a tear that was repaired with tape which you can see in the sixth photo. Light wear, small tears and dog ears on each page. Excellent reference piece. Being sold as/is. No Reserve! This is a wonderful collection of old photographs entitled"Portfolio of Photographs/ The American Navy No. 1/ Published by Pacific Coast Biscuit Company 1901" The portfolio consists of 16 photographs of U.S. Navy ships. Each measuring 10" x 8" The photographs included are: The Maine. The Indiana, The Indiana's 13-Inch Guns, The Massachusetts, The Oregon, The New York, The Brooklyn, The Katahdin, The Miantonomoh, The Dynamite Cruiser Vesuvius, The Dolphin, The Atlanta, The Charleston, The Chicago, The Montgomery, The Raleigh. Each photo is accompanied by a descriptive text underneath and many of the photos are copyrighted 1895 or 1896. There is also a two-page introduction with that gives a short history of the Navy and explains the evolution of different classes of ships. The entire portfolio measures 12-3/4" ... morex 10" and was originally staple bound with brown paper covers. The binding has pretty much come undone and the covers and title page show considerable wear. All of the interior photographs are intact and in good condition.
