This portfolio comes in large hardcover with 10 sections each containg different highlights of the fair. This is packed with photos in amazing detail of the Exposition. Each section is noted as Art series 1-10. This portfolio contains sections 1.2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10 and each section contains approximately 16 photographs or drawings. A sampling of pages from all books are pictured. Very large size. Hard cloth bound cover with gold lettering measuring approximately 12" X 15" Each booklet 13 1/2" X 11" There is wear to the cover with staining ... moreand marks. With edge and corner wear as seen. Fading to the gold lettering. The individual sections exhibit edge and corner wear to varing degrees. Toning to the edges of the covers, light edge chipping on some covers. some small splitting of cover seams one has a large split. Cover of vol 1 away from the pages. A few pages have corner folds. There is no ink or marks on any of the pages that I can see. There is some staining to some of the pages but I did not see any extend to any pictures. I have showed this in a few of the pictures. A couple have slight ripples on the bottom and one has a bit of the red dye transfered from the cover on the bottom of the pages but does not extend to the pictures. This origional photogravure is an origional PORTFOLIO print from the epic undertaking by famed photographer Edward S. Curitis titled" The North American Indian" P ublished as a limited edition book. Origionally intended to have 500 printed copies. There were, in the end, somewhere between 220-270 printed editions. This was an effort by Curtis to permanetly record the life of the North American Indians. Most of the origional volumes are still bound in books but are very rare to find offered for sale. The last complete set sold in 2012 for $1.44 millon dollars. A PORTFOLIO of around thirty large. Unbound plates was produced to complement each volume. Each includes a sheet of captions entitled"List of large plates supplementing volume. Apparently Curtis and his staff selected the most artistic views to be reproduced as the portfolio ... moreprints. Which averaged 11 x 14 inches on large sheets. Many are portraits(AS SEEN HERE) The plates are numbered consecutively. Totaling 722. The front is multi-colored and the back is gold and silver. The natural leather is a deep saddle tan. Condition: The folder itself is flawless. It is heavy. Assumed cowhide, and the broken lacing is easily replaced- ask any shoemaker. There is a very worn and faded red paper blotter inside. A nice material lines the inside binders, while embedded into the portfolio, it appears to be drawing paper. At least, that's what it looks like to me, not sure) Some wear& tear to the bottom of the seams of the binders. But still holding& in tact. This is still very useable. Worn edges. Great embossing to look like leather. Front is 12"x8" and opens to 12"x32" PLEASE SEE MY PHOTOS. THEY ARE PART OF MY DESCRIPTION! In the shipping cost is tracking fee. People are always emailing me after auctions saying"Gee. I wish I would have bid, but if the winner doesn't pay, email me" That can easily be solved by just bidding in the first place. All items are old and not mint unless I say so. When I approached Will to do this Portfolio for my Collectors' Press imprint the intent was to capture quintessential Spirit scenes with brand new ... morepaintings. Will eagerly took to the project and six months after he started I picked up 11 paintings from him at his White Plains, NY, home and studio. Printed via offset lithography using the highest quality printing on special acid free Strathmore art stock, Will was exceedingly happy with the resulting fidelity to his originals. The Portfolio features an introductory Plate from Will along with some color photos I took at his studio while he was working on one of the Plates, 10 full color paintings plus one Plate of black and white printing of his original pencil sketches. When we were in the planning process of the Portfolio Will sent me page after page of suggested ideas for the Plates that he sketched on 8.5x11 typing paper. I thought these were so gorgeous that I included the concept sketches for one of my favorite Plates, Dead End" as a bonus 11th plate. And I didn't stop there.
