This is a Stunning solid Burled Maple and Mahogany Butlers Desk Chest of Drawers. It weighs approximately 250-300 pounds and measures 52” in height. 42 3/4” in width, and 21 ½”in depth. It features beautiful detailing and a deep rich patina. A large false drawer front drops to reveal a Burled Maple writing surface with six small drawers and a middle storage compartment all over three drawers flankled by twisted columns. I'm not sure of the date on this piece. I've had several antique dealers and professionals who looked at it and the concensus is between 1930-1950 possibly made in Ohio. This is a very nice Chippendale style mahogany secretary desk. The desk is complete and is in good condition with several cosmetic flaws but great structural integrity. This desk is complete with original"Genuine Mahogany" tag(photo#3) 2 paper Maddox tags and a metal Maddox shield(photo#9) The shield reads"Maddox Colonial Reproductions Jamestown, NY. The desk is complete with claw feet(photo#5) and beautiful top decoration(photo#4) There are four large drawers in the bottom part of the desk that work perfectly. The desk is quite beautiful when you put the slant top down into writing position. The writing surface is in nice condition but does have several scratches on it. There are five small drawers across the inside of the desk that are topped by 8 letter slots(4 on each side) an open center space with a door, and two hidden ... morevertical pillar drawers(photo#6) There is some damage around the knobs of the drawers and door, particular the center drawer and door, and something stuck inside one of the letter slots(see photo#7) The glass doors on the top of the desk are in very nice condition with the only visible flaw being some imperfection(retouching? in the finish at the center of the doors(photo#8) There are three shelves behind the glass doors. The top shelf has some paper stuck on three side of the back left corner(I do not know if it can be removed or what the finish looks like underneath it) and a circular scuff mark on the back in the center(photo#10) On the lower portion of both the right and left side there is some kind of residue or damage(photo#11) I do not know exactly what it is or if it can be repaired. Antique Primitive Ship Captains Desk
Up for auction is a Primitive Ship Captains Desk. Now I am not 100% sure but when I purchased it at house clean out I was told by the family that it was a Captains Desk and it had originated out of New England. I am not sure of it's age but i would say possibly late 1800's It is constructed all of wood and held together by what looks to be hand made dove tailing. It stands 41 3/4" H x 31 1/4" W x 26" D. It is a very heavy piece and actually it was photographed on a dolly because that is the only way one person can move it around. There are double doors with a metal lock hinge. Looking at the back of the cabinet it appears that a piece of wood was replaced. The top has a great patina and in photo#10 you can see a crack that runs partially across the top. The first thing one notices is the extremely unusual weight; withnessing the quality of the material used by this german company which designs are famous through the work of Christian Dell. The bauhaus metalwork departement master. Exceptionnal about this lamp is the unusual lateral construction which you don t see anywhere else. Which allows for the shade to be tilted from one side to the other, a large teak covered cast iron base will keep the lamp sturdy at any angle! The shade has a dark grey blue colour. Decorative brass screw on top of the lampshade. The bulb casing emanates from a metallic cup lacquered black. The stem is made of a metallic rod lacquered black and placed at a slight angle. Base made of cast iron with a sheet metal cover lacquered canary yellow. Original switch on the base and small decorative brass screw. Very good condition and in full working order. A few age related marks and scratches. Particularly towards the top of the stem. The lamp takes one BC B22(bayonet cap) bulb. It is fitted with a UK plug. A fab large vintage" Invisaflex" industrial desk light. Floor/ bench/ factory workshop task lamp, fully rewired and ready to use. The three arm light is articulated with three joints. A polished aluminium shade and has been fitted onto a disc brake to create a heavy and very stable base with felt underneath to prevent any scratched surfaces. The lamp fully rotates and can be angled into multiple positions. It has a label on one of the arms which reads"Invisaflex" Reg) Patent no 525805& 545236. It has a maximum height of approx 44" with a 10" diameter base. There is some surface wear/ light surface rust to the paint. 1950s or 1960s Wooden Branch Table Lamp Here we have for auction this unusual wooden lamp base. Made from a knobbly tree branch. At first, we thought it was made of an early plastic, but it appears to be a real branch, but painted/varnished to give it a protective coating. It has been fully rewired and fitted with a modern bayonet light fitting to conform to modern safety standards and would look fabulous on any table, with a period shade to set it off. It is quite lightweight, just under 650g, and extremely tactile and is in good condition, with a few small splits in the wood, but no damage. It would therefore be best kept away from radiators to prevent the wood from drying out and splitting.
