Pair Antique Heywood Brothers Wakefield Victorian Wicker Reception Chairs VGC Here is a wonderful pair of Heywood Brothers Wakefield Company Reception Chairs. They have been called"King and Queen" chairs. These pieces are in terrific condition considering they are probably at least 110 years old. Here are the stats: Queen Chair- Smaller of the Two: 32.5" tall. The seat is 16" in diameter, the back is about 14" wide. The thick curlique at the top of the back is cracked through, you can see how this could happen as the tendency is to grab the chair by the center top of the back and the leverage would cause a break. This is easily repaired. Otherwise no damage that I can discern. King Chair- Larger of the Two: 41" tall.15" wide, 16" diameter seat. This piece has a bit more damage than the other. The top ... moreof both vertical support pieces has damage to the wrapped material- please see the photos. The lattice on one side beneath the seat needs to be repaired/secured in two places but all the material is there. Overall. These pieces are in very good condition for their age. Last year i had sold 9 of them as this was the 10th one i was keeping and is the last one from the find. This is an interesting plate with importance! These came from a player's estate sale who was on the 1909 Detroit Tigers American League pennant championship team that lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series. This plate was tagged as coming from the"1909 American League Dinner reception" It appears the estate had saved them from the players at his table which would have possibly been the starting team! This was the year TY COBB WON THE TRIPLE CROWN! It is 3 1/2" inches in diameter. There are no markings on the backside& it is like fine china. ALL OFFERS CONSIDERED Asking price reduced from $8990 This very unusual Post Modern Desk was Hand Made in 1991. The large work surface allows the desk to become a mini conference table. The Paisley Shape of the desk is very ergonomic and the round end with pedestal base makes it easy to gather several chairs together. The round end is 48" in diameter and the overall length of the desk is 108" For best photo resolution. Click on the main photo to open the gallery. The desk is comprised of four distinct elements: 1) The Work Surface was the driving force in the design process. Function dictated the shape. Removing the four sides that are typical of a desk makes the desk a more friendly and less intimidating place to sit with clients. The 48" round end allows the desk to be used as a small conference table. The finish on the top ... morerequired approximately 120 hours. In summery. The design was carved into the surface and then gold leaf was applied. This was followed by an antiquing process, an application of candy apple red lacquer and multiple clear coats until the surface was flat and had a water wet gloss. Today, the high gloss has become semi-gloss due to normal use but could be restored to a full gloss with a fresh clear coat if desired. Periodic coats of car wax keep it protected and looking good. 2) The modesty panel is 1/4" thick plate aluminum with a carefully planned pattern hand ground into the surface using techniques the maker learned while apprenticing as a goldsmith for a well known designer jeweler. The modesty panel took a full week to make. It is essential to the structural integrity of the desk. 3) The pedestal is finished with high gloss laminate and is heavily weighted for stability. 4) The four drawer pedestal is a free form shape that that matches the end of the desk perfectly. This was achieved by building a mold that was used to form a shell made of six layers of three ply wood(18 plys total) The shell was then finished with Breawood Rosewood. Up for auction is this antique wood box tubed short wave and broadcast radio with no brand name on the dial or back. The wood case is in very good condition after all these years as seen in the photos. The dial turning knob does not turn the dial. The on/off switch works fine with only static reception. The back has a service sticker from the Hartnett's Radio Hospital dated June 5. 1946. The cloth wire is brittle but still is intact and conducts current to the radio when plugged in. The radio measures 14 1/2" wide by 7" deep by 9 3/4" high and weighs 11 1/2 lbs. before packaging. A nice find for the collector of antique wood box tubed radios or for the buyer who wants an antique well-preserved wood box short wave/ broadcast radio with static reception to put in working order with some minor repair.
