This is a vintage. Authentic herman miller softpad management aluminum group chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames, and featured in time life magazine. The chair is a classic. Though it does have a few condition issues. There are some scuffs and scratches on the arms, and small tears on some of the edges of the fabric. The upholstery is faded over time, and the foam is breaking down. It's easy to replace, and actually has a zipper to open it up and restuff the upholstery, so it's a simple enough maintenance issue. The base itself is in working condition. However, the knob to turn for raising and lowering the chair height adjustment has been mishandled at some point, and now the edges are sharp, so gloves may be necessary to adjust it. Once height is set, it's great, but it's by no means in mint condition. Also, if the chair ... moreis lifted upwards,it will slide off the base. Overall. It needs some TLC and restoration, but it is an all time mid century modern design classic, and with the proper care, will look great and provide a comfortable desk chair for many years to come. Antique/Vintage Oak Office/Desk/Task Chair Rolls/Swivels Height/Tilt Adjusts
Height adjusts from 18" tall at the seat to about 21 1/4" Back height with the adjustment all the way down in 33 1/4" It swivels. Rolls and has a spring loaded tilt adjustment. Wood is oak. It has some paint/finish wear but no chips or cracks that amount to anything.It is sound and solid and it sets nice as the seat is formed for comfort. Leg spread on base is 18 3/8" across the closest, straight across is 25 3/8" Seat is 18" wide by 15 5/8" deep. The only makers mark I could find was a B. It looks like it might have been made for the military as the metal is in dark kahki green. Very solid and sound chair. I will remove the metal frame from the chair base for shipping. What I could find on this chair: American industrial low lying all metal factory office"posture chair" with swivel casters made by Burroughs Adding Machine Company. Detroit, MI. This is an early 1930's american depression era industrial factory office file clerk or cashier chair designed and patented by Ernest Bacz of Detroit MI. The chair has a contoured thin metal saddle seat with a adjustable back rest. The seat is supported by a centrally located cylindrical shaped telescoping post containing closely space slots for height adjustment. The base has four legs with swivel casters. One of the casters has some wear on outside of caster, see Photo# 11. The casters are stamped Noelting-Faultless, Evansville, Ind. No. 9. The chair is painted green with typical surface wear. Wonderful condition for it's age. Rolling. Swivel Chair with Tilting Backrest Unsure if it has been restored or just well taken care of. Bottom is missing two out of four 1/4 round pieces that go around the base near the legs(see photos) The wheels do not seem to roll that smoothly and may have been removed and not put back on properly. There is a little wear to the back on one side(see photos) and some light tape marks on the front back where a tag was attached in the sun for a few hours.
