Original Herman Miller fiberglass-and-steel DSX chair. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames. This is a very good example: nice visible fibers in the shell, no chips, no cracks. Herman Miller embossed logo is present, as are scraps of the HM paper label. Predates the"Designed by Charles Eames" medallion that appeared in the early sixties, but it's after 1954, since it has the H-style base. There's the slightest bit of wear to the edges of the shell, but really nothing significant. Color is Army green. Also sometimes called dark olive. Bright, even fifties color. Base was sanded to remove rust. Primed, and painted satin black, as original. Glides are originals, not reproductions. Two shock mounts are original; two are high-quality replacements. All four are rock-solid. Narrow-mount configuration. Shell will be removed from base ... morefor shipment. I knew it was going to be really boring but I had to do it in order to be a more of an outstanding community activist.blah blah blah. As I entered the windowless room I nearly fell asleep because I knew how bored I was going to be for the next 2 hours. All of a sudden it struck me. I felt the sense of Christmas overwhelm me. What are those in the corner? Are they what I think they are? No it can't be. As I scurry down the narrow aisle. Stepping on people's feet, anticipation started to peak. Two fiberglass arm shells YES! The arm shells had a removable tan cover on them. not the one that is glued to the shell. I popped off the cover ... moreand noticed a bright lemon-yellow. If you've seen a lot of lemon-yellow. You'll notice that through the many years, the chairs become slightly dull. Because this one was covered, it's BRIGHT and looks BRAND NEW! The back of the shell is painted with that typical Greige color paint by Herman Miller. I made an offer to the building manager and voila! BETTER NEWS! The chairs have the Double Summit Triangle embossing. The one that's not for sale actually has an ink stamp of 1956. If you do the research. No holes, nicks or tears, and not a stitch out of place. There is only one faint scratch toward the front of the seat(pictured) The vinyl is still perfectly adhered to the foam cushion, which is also in excellent condition. No puckering or blistering along the seams. The base is an original zinc H-Base with the shallower depth profile of 18" front to back, and has all of its original casters. Plywood Shell: Brazilian Rosewood bent plywood shell with original gunstock oil finish. Expressive. Even wood grain. No veneer chips, minimal light scratches& no repairs. Vintage Herman Miller Eames rocking shell chair in excellent condition. Shell is elephant hide gray embossed with the Summit double triangle logo. Good fiber content, no chips, holes or cracks. Has a few small abrasions, with overall very minimal wear. Base is original. Factory rocker base. It looks like one of the rocker rails had a small repair where one of the layers of wood began to seperate, and was fixed with carpenter's glue. It's a common flaw in some of these older rockers, but a very easy fix. Not really visible unless you're very close. Some oxidation to the metal and age appropriate wear to wood. Herman Miller Rosewood Eames 670 Lounge Chair & Ottoman Restoration Needed
Listed for sale is a vintage Charles Eames for Herman Miller Rosewood 670 lounge chair and 671 ottoman with brown leather. This chairs is in needed of restoration. See all photos below. The chairs middle wood section has been broken all the way through on both sides at the ends and repaired with metal plates to hold the chair up. All the wood is still there. Just metal plate bolted on to support it. The arm pad mounts have also been drilled for extra support, but the shock mounts are fine, not loose. The wood has overall scuffs, scratches and slight discoloration streaks on the back. The seat cushions are not down and the brown leather does have some wear. It is also missing one button on the seat area and one button on the ottoman has wear down to the metal. I did not remove the cushions from the wood frame. Some or all of the glides on ... morethe chair base should be replace, because they either they are bent or have other issues. There is also a break to the tip of the aluminum star base that attaches to the underside of the seat and is also missing original screw. See photo. The chairs delivery date is Oct. 30th 1979, as marked on both the chair and ottoman. Acquired today is an Eames. Howard Miller style/type lounge chair. I do not know anything about the age or maker. It is stamped 3-83 on base; I did not see any other identifying marks. It has felt attached in four areas of the back of the chair to protect wall. It has two eraser size holes in fabric( it appears to be leather) and a substantial 4.75 inch tear, and a 1.5 inch chip in plywood on back. Please examine all photographs for a better description of item and condition. Herman Miller Charles Eames LaFonda Side Chair
Here is a Herman Miller LaFonda Side Chair that was designed by Charles Eames. The LaFonda chair has a lower back than the traditional fiberglass side chair. It does have the Herman Miller logo in the fiberglass. This chair has an Eames Pedestal Base which does swivel. The shell is attached on the base with bolts coming out of the fiberglass. It was a very early way of attachment. Later Herman Miller changed it to the"t-nuts or shock mounts. The fabric on the chair is a tan/yellow color. It does have some light-dirty spots for being 40-50 years old. There are no rips in the fabric and it is tight to the foam(no popping) Because of it's age the foam is not as soft as it was when it was a new chair. Another great piece of Herman Miller history.
