I was told it was probably made for a lady or teenager as a writing or study desk. I was never clear on the age until I did a web-search and came across the article below. This is an excerpt from the webpage which explains a bit about the maker of this piece: Townshend of Vermont antiqueshoppefl.com/archives/ftaylor/qa71.htm) As seen in The Antique Shoppe Newspaper, April 2007. The label in the drawer reads"Townshend" with an"h" Not Townsend. That opened up a whole new area of exploration since there is a town in Vermont named"Townshend" that was founded in the 1700's. The history of Townshend. Vermont began in 1753 with ... morea charter from King George II and is an interesting tale but not for here. While researching Townshend, Vermont I came across a reference to Townshend Furniture Company. A little further digging turned up an address and phone number for the company and within a few minutes I was talking to Steve Lott who, along with his wife Susie, currently owns Townshend Furniture Company on RT 30 in Townshend, Vermont. Steve told me the company was founded after World War II by a veteran who had an interest in mostly maple Colonial Revival furniture which was produced by the company until the 1960's when it was purchased by Steve's family. Steve confirmed that the paper label found in the drawer of the drop front desk was indeed from his company and was used by his predecessor in the 1950's and 1960's but is no longer in use. That pretty well puts a definite date on this particular piece. According to this article. The desk is most probably from the 1950's or 1960's. Art Deco Waterfall Kneehole Desk and Chair
Beautiful Desk and chair(I will add that picture later today) waterfall art deco style. This desk and chair has been in my family and used for 4 generations. I believe it was refinished in the 70's or 80's, I am certain it was not stripped as it would have destroyed the piece. There is a 2"x3" spot on the top that had sustained some type of damage and was repaired, it is noticeable but is easily concealed with any variety of things you may place on a desk. I have searched the internet for days and have not found anything like this desk, its simple lines make it easy to match with almost any décor, the handles are actually carved into the inside of the drawers where the chair would sit. There are 4 drawers on each side and one in the center. The drawers are dovetailed and the whole piece seems to be put together with ... moredowels, I have seen no evidence of nails. I will add more information on this piece while it is up at auction as I come across it. Other waterfalls desks of this era I have seen at auction going for $1600- $3200, I doubt if this is in that price range, but it is not a simple $200 desk. Beautiful Roll Top Desk w/ Matching chair
Roll top desk comes with matching chair. Both refinished in Annie Sloan chalk paint. Hand waxed with clear wax, then dark wax was applied to give it an antique look, 2 more coats of clear wax were then applied, all hand buffed. I did all of the work myself and all by hand. Seventy-five to one hundred hours of my time was spent on this desk! For those of you that aren't familiar with"chalk paint"it is the newest paint out there and is used for all"shabby chic" projects. Sterling Desk Company Antique Roll Top Desk with FREE Antique Chair
This is a gorgeous piece in overall good. Antique condition. I did some research on the Sterling Desk Company and determined that it was opened in Cedar Rapids, Michigan in the early 1900s, quite possibly 1909, and closed in 1917. When the roll top is closed there is a mechanism that locks all of the drawers, however the lock on the roll top itself is missing. This is a very large, heavy piece. Any potential buyer would need to consider this when picking up as there will be no help for loading. I have a rather large selection of antique wooded chairs varying in size. Style, and condition. This is a beautiful Chinese carved wood slant front writing desk with matching chair. We do not know how old it is. Nor who made it; there is one very much like it-same size, shape, hardware, little more carving-listed on Ebay, but I don't believe this one was made in the 1800's. It is very solid and very, very heavy. The Chair has a cushion on it and is also very solid and very heavy. The carving is on the front and both sides of the desk, and on the chair, as seen in the photos. All the feet on both chair and desk are carved at the bottom. Below the writing area, there are two pullout drawers. The desk measures about 42 inches high, 38 inches wide, and 16 inches deep. As with the other writing desk we listed. This is a pick up item. Beautiful Refinished Roll Top Desk w/ matching chair
Beautiful roll top desk with matching chair. Totally refinished by hand. Finish is a new paint called"Chalk Paint" and can be purchased only online. But I found a recipe for it, also online. The outside is a medium shade of grey, while the inside(cubbies; writing area; storage area) is done in a deep red.Turned out to be a gorgeous combination! After lightly sanding by hand and painting the desk, I applied a coat of clear wax letting it sit overnight. Then I buffed it to a nice glowing sheen. I then applied a coat of the dark wax I had made with a recipe I found online. This gives it the antiqued look you may have seen on"Shabby Chic" items. Shabby Chic" was originally the look I wanted to do on this desk, but it looked so great after I painted it that I couldn't bring myself to create any flaws on it! I buffed ... moreout the dark wax after waiting overnight again. Two more coats of clear wax were applied, hand-buffing between each. There is a storage bin in the very top that lifts open and is deep red inside and on underside of lid. The handles are antiqued bronze w/ cherry wood middles.The matching chair looks great with it. I did it in all of the steps as the desk. It is deep red with the seat upholstered in a heavy, grey, tapestry-like material purchased at Hobby Lobby. As you will have noticed in the pictures, it has some engraving on the back. Also, on the back and sides of the seat. The desk measures 45 1/2" in heigth and is 22" deep, and 50" in length. Must see to appreciate.the pictures do not do it justice!

Many boxes that I inherited, that were stored in an air conditioned storage down here in Florida, I found a box of some beautiful doll furniture including this custom made 100% wood doll furniture school desk and matching chair. Oh, by the way, the doll does not come with the furniture~I just wanted to set it up with the doll so you can see how it looks. VERY CUTE! The desk measures 14 3/8" at its tallest, 10 1/8" at its widest, and 7 3/8" at its deepest. This desk also has a 10" X 6" flip-top attached with two brass hinges and once flipped open it has a very spacious compartment. The chair measures 13 1/8" at its tallest, 6 3/4" at its widest, and 6 3/4" at its deepest. Both the chair and the desk were custom made, 100% wood, very nice detailed routing job, and even has attached ... moredowels for support. Both the desk and the chair are very, very sturdy. VERY, VERY CUTE! So. Vintage Child's Rolltop Desk with Matching Adjustable Height Swivel Chair UNIQUE
Here is a unique vintage child's roll top desk and matching adjustable swivel chair. In solid excellent condition. The desk measures 35"H x 27"W x 15"D. It has pigeon holes and 2 drawers. The slats are secure and their supporting canvas is intact and without fraying. The matching chair measures 24" high when wound all the way down, and may be unwound safely to about 28" It is most likely an Eastman, but labels on back have been torn too much to see. This is a charming little desk that is additionally beautiful because of the children's markings it carries. It is not a perfect child's relic from the 1930's-1940's. Rather. It was clearly in use by children of its era! There is a Sarah Crewe(Shirley Temple) quote from the 1939 film"The Little Princess, carved into the desktop by a child's ... morehand. The carving isn't immediately noticeable, and it was difficult to photograph the entire passage because much of it begins further back under the pigeon holes. In addition. There are 4 children's names and ages, scrawled in faded red crayon, in big, looping beginner cursive, hidden on one side of the bottom drawer, not at all visible unless the drawer is pulled out. There are two Henderson children's names, and two Powell children's names Much vintage/antique furniture pieces seem to be valued most for their flawlessness. While structural integrity/overall condition is no doubt very important. These items were in fact owned, loved and used by others before us. The history they carry is often just as important as aesthetic beauty, and the marks left by others may often be an enchanting enhancement of the original aesthetic! It was this unique carved quote that drew me to purchase this little desk over the other 2 available child's desks at the time that I found it!
