RARE Antique Duophoto Copier from 1930's New York Patent #2127601 Wood Chest
This is a very rare antique. It is a Duophoto copier from the 1930's. The patent# is 2127601 and it was made in New York. This was one of the first electrified copiers which paved the way for companies like Xerox. I have not seen another like it anywhere online. So information is very hard to come by on this piece. I was able to find the patent papers on google which I have included in the last photo. This is an attractive antique with the original iron latches and leather straps on the sides. The chest opens up to show the copier surface of glass. there are compartments on each side. There is also a drawer on the bottom of the chest in the front.The right side has some electrical components and a cord that can be plugged into the wall. There is a very cool timer on the front which still works. There is also a knob that is marked Positive ... moreand Negative. On the side of the chest has a switch and a place to plug in the female end of an electrical cord. There is a vent in the back. I unscrewed the vent to show you the inside of the chest. There are light bulbs lining the inside perimeter of the box. There are yellow bulbs and white bulbs that alternate. All bulbs are present. The front of the chest has a great metal name plate that says the name of the company and information about this particular copier. It doesn't work at the moment. I suspect some rewiring is needed. It measures 29"x 15 3/4" x 13 3/4" I would guess that it weighs around 40 pounds. There are some places where the wood is chipping on the sides, but this isn't too severe. It doesn't fully function. The CD Playback side on the left works great. The tray comes out smooth and playback engages without a hitch on audio CDs. The recording side of of the deck(right tray) doesn't read discs and the tray comes out and pops back in when you press the eject button. Copy count: 2,187,303(total) 1,444,608(color) 742,695(black) The machine has been under service contract with Xerox until this month. It works fine, but there are things you should know. Please read this carefully before you bid on this machine. This auction is being re-run because the previous winner said he bid"by mistake. History This machine was bought on eBay from a seller in Kentucky. The machine worked fine but the seller was moving up to a larger machine. Although the machine was moved and shipped by a professional shipping company. It arrived in Los Angeles damaged. Most of the damage was cosmetic, i.e. broken plastic, scratched plastic and dented sheet metal, but one PC ... moreboard in the finisher had to be replaced. All repairs were done by Xerox. Xerox put the machine under service contract and it remained so until this month. Although Xerox made the machine fully operational. They did not replace a small plastic(cosmetic) part on the right side of the main unit. It abuts the finisher so you can't see it. They also did not replace the scratched plastic front panel of the finisher or the dented sheet metal back cover of the finisher. The arm on which the display screen sits isn't broken, but appears to be at a slight angle. None of these things affect the performance of the machine. Remember Xerox put it under contract. The machine ran fine for several months until I asked for(and paid for) training from Xerox on the FreeFlow's advanced features. Following the technician's visit. The FreeFlow screen displayed a message that a new license was required and that it would stop working soon. The FreeFlow wasn't damaged, but a change of ownership, Xerox later told me, required a transfer of the FreeFlow software license, which required a fee of $3750.
