I'll bet every Navy'Sparkie' had one of these right next to his rack. You are bidding on an AN/USM-3 Test Set/ TV-4/U Tube Tester. I have not thoroughly tested this unit. It was made for the navy by Radio Frequency Labratories of Boonton New Jersey. I took the cover off to take pictures of the internals. Of course it is built like a tank, the way the military used to have stuff built, built to last. I did power it up and confirmed that the transformer is good. If you do a lot of testing you might want this meter! I tested the standard voltmeter feature for DC current and it read out properly on a 1.5 volt and a 9 volt battery. I did not test the 110 volt feature but there's no reason to think it doesn't work. I don't know enough about the special features to use them. New. The models ending in 01, 02, 03 of this unit sell in the $1,500 range and are hard to find in pre-owned(used) condition. The numbers 2000. 2001, 2002, 2003 are NOT indicative of those years. This IE-17-E Test Set for the BC-611 was purchased from a government sale about 40 years ago exactly in the condition you see(I never had the time to do anything with it other than use the test stand and test case) The wood case CH-299 was made in USA by Taffett Radio and Television. The test stand was also made by Taffett, the test case has French designations, but the Taffett tag was riveted on it. The phantom antenna A82 panel is labeled in French. But its RF current meter(labeled"A-82C) is made in USA. The test unit I-135 is made in France. What you see in the photos is what you get, it all appears to be in good condition and the I-135 is very clean inside including the battery compartment. I bought this because I had a number of BC-611s at the time, but only ... moreended up using the test case. I wish that I knew more about the origins of this set, could it have been"reverse Lend-Lease" originally intended for the Korean War? I don't know, but I really like it and I am sure that you will too, especially if you put it to use as intended. It does not have the manuals. Screwdriver, or other minor items that are more easily obtained than the test set itself. My hope is that this set will go to a military radio enthusiast who will enjoy it and take good care of it for future generations to see and enjoy. This is a heavy unit and very well built. According to markings on the sides of the slides it would seem that it is for some kind of eye test. not totally sure) Slides are in very nice condition with no cracks. Chips and/or repairs that I have noticed. There is some minimal edge wear on sides(tape? placed by manufacture. There is also the Keystone Steroview markings on the larger picture on slide(can be seen in pictures although you have to read backwards) 3 of the slides are on yellow glass and 2 are on clear glass. The 2 on clear glass are not totally black they have small colored dots on them.
