The 135/4 Sonnar was one of the few lenses to be carried through the entire life of the Contax system. It's design was also used for the Contaflex Twin Lens as well as the Contarex. The lens was offered in chrome in 1935, in preparation for the Contax II and III. The minimum f/ stop was f/16, but later was changed to f/22. Every president of the United States over a period of eighty years did considerable rail traveling during his incumbency. Beginning with Andrew Johnson's"swing around the circle. Private cars, rather than entire trains, were the rule in the Nineteenth Century, and much of the traveling was done in political campaigns. Notable examples of comparatively recent specials were those of Woodrow Wilson on his unsuccessful tour of the country for the League of Nations, the fatal Alaskan journey of Warren G. Many years ago, when a certain President traveled he used a railroad business car and would be charged the regular rail fare but nothing for the space he occupied nor his meals. The Interstate Commerce Commission investigated and then made a rule that the minimum of ten rail fares be paid for the business car when used on another company's tracks and in addition, a rail fare for each non-pass holder, and the equivalent of a section rate as well. That more or less stopped the use of railroad business cars for Presidential tours. Then the Pullman Company came into the picture. To help out, Pullman agreed to furnish a private car on the same terms that it would a sleeping car on the overflow basis. When this proved unsatisfactory, the Association of American Railroads bought a car from Pullman Company and set it aside for use of the President of the United States.
