RCA ARB Airborne Military MF/HF 4-Band Shortwave Receiver CRV-46151 - Working
RCA Model ARB CRV-46151 Military MF/HF Aircraft Receiver Modified with AC Power Supply& 8 Ohm Audio Amp- Working Here is a very nice example of the RCA Model ARB CRV-46151 airborne receiver. The ARB covers 195Kc thru 9500Kc in 4-bands. Reception modes are Voice/MCW(AM) and CW/SSB(with internal BFO) The ARB was originally configured to run on 28 volts DC with an internal Dynamotor and be remote controlled via a CRV-23253 mechanical tuning head and CRV-23254 control box. This receiver was cleanly modified by a previous owner with an internal 115 volt internal AC power supply using a 6X4 rectifier tube and 12SQ7 audio amplifier stage to drive a standard 8-ohm speaker thru the front panel headphone jack just below the antenna binding posts. The front panel has been modified as follows: Spare Fuse" now AVC/Man toggle switch"Fuse" ... morenow BFO on/off toggle switch"Motor Drive" now AC Fuse"Control Box" connector now AC Power/AF Gain control"Power" connector now RF Gain control Between AF and RF gain controls now AVC slow/fast toggle switch Below main tuning gear box now AC power connector- see caution note below The AVC/Man toggle switch is best left down and the AVC slow/fast switch left up for operation in all modes. Use the BFO switch to switch between AM/CW-SSB. Turn the AF gain all the way up and use the RF gain to control volume. Tuning is accomplished via the right-angle spinner knob on the gear box where the remote tuning cable would normally go. Band A- 195 to 560kc Band B- 560 to 1600kc Band C- 1600 to 4500kc Band D- 4500 to 9050kc This receiver works well on all bands. All tubes have been tested as good on a TV-7D/U. Antenna connection is made via binding posts on the front panel. Whoever did the modification added a matching plate to cover the repurposed front panel connectors and did such a good job of installing the AC power supply and audio amplifier that they appear to be factory. It has no holes, dings, dents, and has been cleaned and resprayed over the original wrinkle finish. The tag in the back of the cabinet says"BC 348 J" The original tag on the front was missing. I can't see any metal disturbance at the mounting of the rotating magnet to the wood case or at the 2 holes for bolting in the U magnets themselves. I don't know if the magnets were removed for a home conversion or taken for parts. As mentioned before. Because I don't know the history of this particular phone, the unit is sold as is.
