Of course, that one has more speed control because it is digital) This unit runs on 115VAC and has a 115V DC Motor that is geared down and rated at 1800RPM and 1/12HP. The unit itself runs from about 40RPM to 1150RPM. There is a counter on bottom of the transmission which can be used to calculate the speed of rotation. There is also two adapters which can be connected with a small belt to be used to operate some other moving devices and could easily be used for demonstrating projects or moving displays. Vintage Foredom Variable Speed Bench Top Motor & Flexshaft series J 0.5A
This is a vintage motor that works fine. It has variable speed and takes tools with a very small diameter. Less than 1/16" I don't have any bits that fit it. So I don't know for sure what size it uses) The motor is marked 0.5A and 110-130V AC DC. There is no indication of RPM's or HP. It's about the size of a sewing machine motor. The base has one of its rubber feet missing so you will need to wedge up one corner somehow. The hand piece is also marked Foredom and has a sliding guard, that moves up over the knurled rings of the chuck when in use. The 9th photo shows handpiece with this guard down; the 10th photo shows handpiece with guard up. The chuck is opened and closed manually: it does not require or allow for use of a chuck key or wrench. The motor does not smell bad/suspicious when in use; the cord has no issues ... moreand is supple; but the shaft's rubber coating/tube is split near where it attaches to the motor(see 3rd and 4th photos) This is a cosmetic issue but not a performance issue and the housing inside is not kinked or damaged. The chuck turns at fairly high RPM's. Even at the lowest speed setting; and the motor and speed control work properly throughout the speed range.

MagneTek Variable Speed D.C. 46405051000-2A 3000 RPM 1 HP 90V PMDC Motor
This is a used variable speed permanent magnet 90 Volt DC motor with a rating of 1 horsepower. The nameplate speed is 3.000 RPM and it is housed in a TENV enclosure with a dual shaft. The motor was removed from a Precor 905E treadmill with electronic control to vary speed. The speed control is a full wave SCR type with a iron core choke and capacitor to smooth out the DC pulses. Note: I am selling the speed control components separately on eBay. The motor brand is MagneTek by Indiana General of El Paso, Texas and assembled in Mexico. You may find this motor useful as a replacement treadmill motor or for other home or industrial applications, including as a windmill generator. It is in good shape and was well taken care of with only moderate use over a couple of decades in a home treadmill running on 120 VAC line power.
