Copper Laboratory Sieve - Michigan Mining Equipment - Science Collectible
This is a historic piece of lab testing equipment. The set consists of three parts all of which are of"Copper" construction. There is a copper cylindrical container that appears to be a little bit larger than Quart size. There is the number"5" stamped into the metal on the upper portion. This container is close to 8 inches tall and 4 3/4 inches in diameter. The sieve apparatus itself is made up of two parts. Both made of copper. The sieve measures approximately 6 inches in diameter and is 3 inches tall. The bottom is fitted with a screen or sieve that has circular openings of between 1/16 to 1/32" in diameter. This sieve fits into the bottom copper receiver. The receiver is approximately 8 1/8 inches in diameter and it 3 inches tall. The upper rim of the receiver has a 1 inch protruding inward-flat lip around the ... moreentire circumference. There is a cylindrical extension port of 1/2 inch in diameter and 1/2 inch in height that appears to used to attach a hose to. This bottom receiver might have been used as a water reservoir to assist in screening mineral samples. In raised letters on the outer surface of this piece are the words: Central Scientific Company- Chicago. This equipment was used in a materials lab located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan; also know as Michigan's Copper Country. These copper pieces would polish up nicely if they were to be used for display. I have included nine photographs for you to examine. The old look has great texture and color patina. As you can see. It is the baby of all rails. Lot of O Scale Mining Equipment Kits; Stampmill, Stationary Engines, Rail Auto
For auction is a lot of six items which are all O scale white metal(not brass) kits to build up various pieces of mining equipment. These kits are being sold as found and appear mostly unbuilt and complete. But there is the possibility that some parts or instructions may be missing so bid accordingly. There are lots of great kits and parts here and certainly modelers of even modest skills will be able to produce several excellent models- some minor enhancements may be required. I will do my best to describe what’s in the lot. First is a large stamp mill which actually operates. It is 4-7/8” tall and 3-1/4” wide counting the belt drive wheel. Maker of this stamp mill may be CHB Models but I’m not certain. The superstructure is wood and the model is nicely detailed and finished. Second is a CHB Models SB-650 Stationary Boiler Kit. This is a ... morelarge. Impressive kit and looks to be all there and unopened and with instructions. Third is a CHB Models ME-812 Mill Engine kit which also appears complete and unbuilt and has its instructions. Fourth is CHB Models SM-700 Stamp Mill Hardware. Fifth is a CHB Models OB-170 Ore Breaker Kit. This kit may or may not be complete and I did not see an instruction sheet in the box. Last is what appears to be a model track inspection automobile kit from the National Motor Co. of Walla Walla. WA. These are all good quality kits that will build up into great looking equipment for your mine installation. I am selling these items on Ebay for a friend. But I am fairly knowledgeable about model trains and will do my best to answer any questions you may have prior to the close of auction. Please note that these kits are being sold as-is. Nobel’s 1867 patent for the blasting cap was a copper shell filled with fulminate of mercury. This is essentially still the blasting cap of today. Except that later, 10% of potassium chlorate was added to the fulminate via an 1869 patent by Tal Shaffner(patent No. 98,428) The initial detonation by means of the fulminate cap of firing nitroglycerine and dynamite was of immense importance and made the use of high explosives for blasting practical. Mini Rocker Mining Equipment
This is a"Mini Rocker" mining equipment that looks like it's made to be an acupment to gold paning. Although on the directions sheet that I have it also talks about saphires and rubys. This was used once or twice by a friend and then put in storage for several years and forgotten. There is one sheet of paper with directions on both sides of it, telling out to use it. The paper has been with the mining equipment in storage and the paper has gotten damp at times, and there is discoloration where the paper was folded however directions can still be easily seen and read. This mining equipment was either made and/or sold in Hardin Montana by a company named H& L Mfg. The address and phone number still appear on the sheet of paper.
