Fine French Louis XVI Bankers Desk lamp Solid Bronze heavy thick Torchere 1910
Up for consideration is a fine heavy 2 arm Solid Bronze Architectural French Lamp in the Louis XVI manner. It measures about 17 inches wide by 14.5 inches tall to the socket by 5 inches thick. Trust me this is one chunky thick sort of lamp.that one sees in the old movies in a Courthouse or a bank with large white Globes or Torch shades. That's why they arms are set so far apart and with the thickness of the arms and wideness of the drip pan this lamp could proportionally hold some good old 10 inch globes or large torch shades. Vintage Art Deco Bankers Industrial Style Desk Lamp with Brass & Bronze Patina
This is a Vintage Art Deco Bankers Industrial Style Desk Lamp. The shade and base have a brass and bronze patina. But I cannot say for sure if the respective metals are brass and bronze or if they are another metal with brass and bronze patination. You can see from the overall look of the lamp. And especially the very old style ballast and wiring that this piece is definitely of the period. I looked the lamp over carefully and found no maker's mark nor other information on either the lamp or the ballast/ plug. The base measures 6 3/4" x 3 3/4" The shade measures 9" x 4 1/4" with a maximum height of 2 1/2" The overall height with the shade adjusted to the horizontal position is 7 1/2" We have quite a variety of other vintage Art Deco items in our ebay store. Condition Lamp This is a great looking lamp but ... moreit does have a number of condition issues: there is quite a number of spots of variation on the patina of both the shade and base as seen. As well as a number of scuffs and scrapes, There are two small. Shallow dents toward the back of the shade as seen. Electrical When I first turned on the lamp it was working. But I later had a problem. The black button seems to be a reset button or similar. The dim bulb that glows only at the ends stays on all of the time. I assume this is as designed, but I do not know for sure. The red button turns the other fluorescent bulb on and off. As I said, it initially worked but now it does not. I assume the most likely thing is that this very old bulb was on its last legs and has now burned out, but I do not know for sure. The ballast intermittently makes a moderate buzzing noise. The old cloth covered wiring is in very poor condition with a couple of black electrical tape repairs. We are not knowledgeable in this area. But I would definitely set the expectation that this lamp may not be safe for use until it is rewired, and a suitable replacement for the old style ballast be used. 19th Century- Sharp& Alleman to R J Wilson. This item is a preprinted envelope sent to R J Wilson Esq. Attorney at Law, Fayetteville, Arkansas. The stamp used for postage is identified in the Scott catalog as an illustration A59 one cent Franklin. It is tied to the cover with an oval 2 cancel from Philadelphia, PA. The pre-printed return reads"Sharp& Alleman, Attorneys and Counsellors at Law, 37 and 39 South Third St, Philadelphia, PA, Return if not delivered" There is a stain in the center of the envelope. The item was opened cleanly at the flap and there are no contents. Arkansas" was placed on the cover with a hand stamp. R J Wilson" and"Fayetteville" are the only entries written, the rest are pre-printed. What appears to be"POP 415" has been written very lightly in pencil at the bottom center ... moreof the cover. The firm of Sharp& Alleman published a Lawyers and Bankers Directory beginning in 1883. It was a reference used throughout the legal and banking arenas that required constant updating to be effective. This correspondence cover demonstrates how the firm streamlined their communications through pre-printing and use of hand stamps in addresses. R J Wilson was a prominent attorney in Fayetteville associated with Artemus Floyd Wolf. A historical figure in the development of the Fayetteville area at the end of the 19th century. Wilson was the attorney for Wolf's Security Land Company of Fayetteville and the Administrator of his sizeable estate when Wolf died in 1910. Wilson was Mayor of Fayetteville in 1874, 1875, 1876, and 1886. He was the Treasurer of the Arkansas Historical Association and a member of their Executive Committee. Vintage Book Bank - United States National Bank of Portland OR by Bankers Utilit
This bank was manufactured by the Bankers Utilities Company of San Francisco. Ca. and was patented July 3, 1923. It has a brass framing which shows on the edges, with the embossed green leather covering. It has a slot that will accept coins and bills. It is also ingeniously designed so that coins will not easily shake out. It must be opened with a key which is missing. Measuring 5-1/4" by 3-1/2" by 1" thick. The front of the band reads"The United States National Bank Broadway and Sixth. At Stark. Portland Oregon" The back reads"Save and Have Benjamin Franklin Vol. 1" and the back reads"Member Federal Reserve System" This bank is in very good nice condition.
