This unit was tested, fired and lit the bulb perfectly. All dials, meter and bulb starter worked as expected. Full warmup of the mercury arc bulb took a couple minutes. Images 3-7 are with different settings on the camera to try capturing the blinding intensity of the light(image# 6) as well as the final beam focus of the warmed up bulb(image 7) The rig was left running for 15 minutes without issue. The lamp housing(detailed in images 8-11) is a bit of a mystery. It has no unique identification markers but it does have adjustment hardware as if part of an installation. This is a scarce mercury lamp housing and starter ballast for the venerable Leitz Aristophot micro photographic system The light can be used for transmitted light with an Arsitophot(as currently configured) or with a Leitz Orthoplan microscope; The lamp piece uses two clamps to attach to the back of the Arsitophot stand. The ballast plugs into the wall. The lamp unit plugs into the ballast. A brand new mercury bulb was installed just before I took it out of service. The light is very, very bright. This unit is heavy. The ballast weighs 35 pounds. And the light unit weighs about 12 pounds. Please allow for your shipping costs when you make your bid.
