It produced high quality instruments that are still in demand today. I am guessing that this micrometer is from the early 1930's. It weighs 6 oz. and everything- thimble, lock, and ratchet- all works well. Since this is a vintage model, it does have pitting and discoloration, but not on the spindle, just on the thimble and body. Somewhere in its history, an owner stamped in a small discrete name or logo on the front. Carefully look at the photos to be sure that you will be satisfied with this unit.

Brown & Sharpe #1 Outside Micrometer Great Vintage American Made Machinist Tool
Up for Auction is a Vintage Brown& Sharpe#1- 1" Micrometer in Original Wooden Box. This is an all-metal. American made precision measuring device. It was used for many years by my father and he is extremely meticulous about his tools. The micrometer itself has initials etched on one side, and the wooden box is marked with his name. The micrometer seems to work perfectly and is dead-on accurate according to my other measuring tools. Although its in great shape, there are signs of use. Please see the photos for details. Vintage Brown & Sharpe, No.47, 1"-2", 0.001" Outside Micrometer Smooth Accurate
Brown& Sharpe is a division of Hexagon Metrology. Inc. a multinational corporation focused mainly on metrological tools and technology. During the 19th and 20th centuries, Brown& Sharpe was one of the best-known and most influential firms in the machine tool industry. It produced high quality instruments that are still in demand today. I am guessing that this micrometer is from the early 1930's. It weighs 6 oz. and everything- thimble, lock, and ratchet- all works well. Since this is a vintage model, it does have some pitting and discoloration, but not on the spindle, just on the thimble and body. Somewhere in its history, an owner stamped in a small discrete name or logo on the front. Carefully look at the photos to be sure that you will be satisfied with this unit.

This auction is for a set of three vintage used Brown& Sharpe micrometers. Each in a wood(pine? box with the manufacturer's name printed on top and a content label on one end. Based on patent dates stamped into the micrometers, they were manufactured around 1902 and 1907. There is a partial mismatch between the box labels and model number of the micrometers. The micrometers are as follows: Outside Micrometer No. 48(1" to 2" in 0.0001" The patent date is Dec. 30. 1902. An owner's name is engraved into the anvil. The box is actually for a model No. 60. Outside Micrometer No. 13(0" to 1" in 0.0001" No patent date could be found on its body. The box is for a model No. 13. So the box matches the micrometer. The box lid end-stop is missing. Inside Micrometer(Unknown model number) 1" to 0" in 0.001" ... moreThe outside faces are curved. Suggesting this micrometer is used to measure the diameter of small round holes. A reading of 0" occurs when the faces are 1" apart. As the distance between the faces DECREASE, the reading INCREASES. The patent date is Jan 29, 1907. The box is actually for a model No. 59. The boxes are stained and dirty. All micrometer thimbles turn freely over their range. And their faces are smooth. There are scratches and scuff marks over their bodies. The rachet of both outside micrometers work properly. These micrometers are being sold as-as, and may need calibration before use.

I really don't know how to describe it except on one side it reads 1-8 = 125. 1-4 = 250, etc. On the other side is reads 64th, etc. It works really well, has two wrenches and an extra piece as shown in the pictures. But there are additional numbers on it. If someone knows for sure, I would appreciate E-mail. This appears to be a micrometer for measuring screw threads. The anvil comes to a"V" and rotates while the spindle is pointed. This is a used micrometer and does show some signs of wear. I think that it is accurate because when closed. With the point on the spindle touching the anvil, the thimble reads ZERO. There is a person’s name engraved into the frame. I think it could easily be removed with a stone if desired.
