Two Matching Greibach Instruments Panel Meters, Ammeter & Voltmeter
These two matching panel meters are historically unique and quite large. They were made by Greibach Instruments and weigh 11 lbs. each. The DC ammeter is a model MCD-700-1(R- 0.005 ohms) with ranges of 5. 10, 20, and open. The AC/DC voltmeter is a model MCA-700-1(R- 1.000 ohms/V) with ranges of 15, 30, 45, and off. The stickers. Which were left intact, are from NASA, a local university, and a calibration dated from 1972. The analog readings are read from a vertical beam of light projected from the rear of the meter. The lamp from the the ammeter is a GE 82. Which operates at ~ 6 volts. The visible face of each meter measures 8.5 x 5.38 inches. Each of the meters extends almost 12 inches behind the surface of the panel when mounted. Four machine screws. Two on each side, are still in place for mounting the meters. It has been constructed to withstand student abuse and rough handling. Graduated and numbered to 5 each way from zero center. Readings are plainly visible to instructor and class from both sides of the instrument. Zero centering is accomplished by a knob located near the base. Wiring is color coded from instructional use as a galvanometer a four range ammeter, and a four range voltmeter. There is some touch-up paint on the back side(see photos) but overall an extremely nice example of a vintage Galvanometer ... moredemonstrator for teaching– or home use…hmmmmmmm*NOTE: If there is a ruler or a random coin/dollar bill in these pictures it is for scale and not part of the package. You are bidding on an early Ampprobe voltmeter ammeter tester with a rotary scale. Model RS-1. Looks to be in usable condition but the voltage probes are missing. The case is dirty but no cracks are visible. The needle on the meter seems to be intact but I have not tested this unit. Made in USA. There is a case but it's not in real good condition. Instrument measures approximately 10.5 by 3 x 6 inches. Add.75 inches for the knobs. Foxing/browning to the meters. The Volts side has terminals for 0. 25, and 125. The Amperes side has terminals for 0, 2, and 10. On the paper labels it notes BCE 15 and No 2185. There is what may be a logo underneath the Volt and Amperes words on the labels, but we're not sure who it is made by. It sure is a sweet piece of display gear though! Early brass handle and push-button to open. Plate in rear with screws to open, and 2 larger screws in the base(opposite the terminals) We don't know if this works or not. And in shaking it gently we hear a bit of rattling- this could be the spring mechanisms ... morefor the scales or something else, but we're not comfortable about opening it up. So we're selling it as is, and will answer whatever questions we can. It came from an old collection in NY state. I do think the glass was probably replaced at some point, not an unusual thing for a working instrument in the field.
