Simpson Model 388 Therm-O-Meter Temperature Meter (circa 1965)
For sale is a used Simpson Model 388 Therm-O-Meter. Made by the Simpson Electric Company of Elgin. Illinois, U.S.A. around 1965. It has three selectable inputs from iron-constantan temperature probes. And contains a battery-powered compensation circuit. The meter displays degrees Fahrenheit and Centigrade. The black bakelite case of this meter measures about 7" x 6" x 3" Temperature probes. A battery(1.5 volt D-Size) or other accessories are not included in this sale. The condition of this meter is as follows: A small part of the case corner is broken off(see photo) The rest of the case is in good physical shape. With some scuff marks and scratches. It has been cleaned and given a hand buffing. The glass window of the display has been cleaned on both sides. Both front panel knobs turn freely. An old leaked battery was found ... morein the battery compartment. But the leakage remained within the compartment and was easy to clean up. The back plastic wall of the battery compartment appears to have been etched by the leakage. And the negative terminal spring is rusty. However. This spring still functions properly, and the positive terminal is clean. An iron-constantan probe was not available for testing purposes. So an iron-copper junction probe was constructed. A flame applied to the junction caused a needle deflection of about 30 degrees Centigrade. All three probe inputs produced similar results. This meter is being sold as-is. No tests have been done beyond those described above. If this meter is to be used for its intended purpose. It should be tested and calibrated with proper temperature probes.

This Simpson Multi-meter works and is in nice condition. It is an earlier model but as the pictures show it reads voltage and ohms. The leather carry case shows signs of age. As do the leads, but are still in nice working condition. The battery in the meter is good. It is vintage and used with no guarantees. This is a vintage Simpson ammeter which displays milliamps on a scale of 0-50. It appears to be new old stock. The face measures 3" x 3" and the back of the gauge measures 2.625" diameter. This unit is untested by me as I do not have the equipment to test it with out damaging it so it is being sold as-is. Shipping via USPS.
