130 Amp 12 To 14 Volt CB Ham Radio 10 Meter Linear Amp Power Supply
This is a repurposed computer server power supply. It is extremely heavy duty and it is ultra compact in size. Weight is about 10 pounds. The unit is rated at 112 amps continuous duty on 117-127 volts& it is also rated at 130 amps continuous duty at 220 volts. This is an extremely well protected supply. I modify these units with an on/off switch. A variable fan speed control& of course a variable voltage control. They typically run from 13 volts to around 14.2. If you turn the voltage up past 14.2 it will go into protect mode and shut down. Simply turn the voltage control back down and cycle the on/off switch and it will come right back on. If you are looking for 16-20 volts this is not for you but it will hold it's own under a load. They are very impressive. If you are going to order please keep in mind that if your wall current ... moreis less than 117 volts under a load you will not be able to run this unit at 14.2 volts. In some cases I've had customers whose voltage just would not support this unit until they ran a dedicated line that gave them power to run this. These are very similar to switching power supplies so they draw less than the older style power supplies with heavy transformers. These units draw 16 amps ac at full output of 112 amps on 117+ volts and around 11 amps on 220+ volts ac so they do not consume a lot of amps. I have customers who are running as many as 5 of these tied together on 220 volts and are getting 650+ amps. Please keep in mind that these are dell poweredge 6800 1570 watt redundant power supplies. As much as I would like to have them as quiet desk top supplies they are not. The variable fan control really slows the fans and they are not bad at all. If you like extreme silence then you will have to isolate them by either putting them in a desk drawer or make some other type arrangements. In most cases with customers who use linear amplifiers the fan on these units are no louder than the fan on your amplifier. I ship these with battery cable type tinned copper lugs. So you

A person who does weak-signal work or moon bounce work would want this amplifier as well as businesses. Airports, and research orgs doing VHF wanting as a spare unit. Very hard to come by full-limit amps at that frequency. Two caveats: Requires a hefty power supply of 1500-2000 volts. Parts are expensive but not a bank-roll killer. Also requires controls to run it(see the little black box with pins in the bottom right of pix 7) Manual and parts should be available from Motorola(Mot = Motorola) but also expensive. But once you've got/built the power supply and built/acquired a control box. You've got an absolutely primo amp. He worked for Motorola for 14 years servicing and repairing various radios with a total of 45 years industry experience. EXACTLY what you see in the photos is what's included. This unit has been stored in dad's temperature controlled storage facility for"X" number of years. There are signs of"shelf sitting" on the exterior but the interior looks shiny and new. I have no idea how to test the unit. The last photo shows how my dad had it labeled in the box it was so carefully packed in. Due to my ... morelack of amateur radio knowledge. I reached out to a long term ham friend remotely(thanks Bob) to see if he can add some insight to help me describe this unit. Here is what he had to say: This is an immaculate full-limit(1500 watts easy) amplifier useable for the 2 meter ham band. A person who does weak-signal work or moon bounce work would want this amplifier as well as businesses. Airports, public safety authorities, police or research orgs doing VHF wanting as a spare unit. Very hard to come by full-limit amps at that frequency. Two caveats: Requires a hefty power supply of 1500-2000 volts. Parts are expensive but not a bank-roll killer. Also requires controls to run it(see the little black box with pins in the bottom right of pix 7) Manual and parts should be available from Motorola(Mot = Motorola) but also expensive. But once you've got/built the power supply and built/acquired a control box. You've got an absolutely primo amp. Here is an opinion/observation from an RF Commercial Tech: This would be adaptable to 2M with enough work. RF Power Labs V70 2 Meter amp
RF Power Labs V70 90 watt 2 Meter Amp. All modes. AM FM SSB CW, 144-148mhz. Up to 90 watts out depending on drive. Self contained AC power supply. With 13 volt DC regulated on a jack at the rear. This amp w as designed to supply 13 volts DC at 3 amps to power the early 10 watt exciters. All you needed was an interconnecting coax cable and you were on the air. I bought this amp off ebay with a broken switch and a blown final. The designer and manufacturer was a personal friend to many of us here in the NW. The common problem is setting the taps too high on the multi-tap transformer in order to squeeze the last watt out. And overdriving the amp. This one is designed for a nominal drive of 10 watts, and an absolute maximum of 15 watts. I have some parts to repair these amps. The early amps were 70 watts output, but later transistors brought ... moreit up to about 90 watts. This one now will do almost 100 watts, but I don't recommend it. The power out shown was with about 13 watts drive from a Kenwood TS-700. The manual says V71 instead of V70. I think the difference is the drive is shown as 3 watts. With the corresponding driver transistor. Specs are shown for designing a"T" pad, if the drive level has to be attenuated, and where to place it. My exciter seems to like a length of 72 ohm coax to the input of the amp, which I will include. If you choose something else the input circuit may have to be readjusted. Again. This amp is designed for the earlier exciters which produced about 10 watts out. Any attempt to drive it with much more will blow the driver transistor for sure and possibly the final too, although that possibility has been minimized with the current transformer tap settings. If you have a 45 or 50 watt exciter, there isn't much sense in buying this amp anyway, it will only provide about 3 db amplification, where a 10 watt exciter will be increased almost 10 db, a very noticeable increase. These amps are designed for commercial service. The manufacturer was a ham. So he made ham versions for HF
