I am guessing this is a model 433. I found what looks to be an identical piece on Ebay(listed for $89. Holy cow! That one is listed as a model 433. I can find no markings on this unit. No instruction book either. Found this is my Dad's basement about 10 years ago. Not sure if Dad used this when he worked for ComEd. I don't know if it works. If you email me instructions on how to set up wiring, I can test and send pictures. I have no reason to believe it doesn't work. I just don't like electricity and don't want to blow something up. It comes with the original case. I think it's leather. The buckle and the strap is intact. It has some tape on the lid(I think Dad put this out on a lawn sale) and some paint on the side. The voltmeter looks like anything would being old. Some scratches, scuff marks, the missing rubber ... morefoot, and a chip on the corner of the casing. Vintage Davies Laboratory Rac-Lab Power Supply AC/DC/Voltmeter Repair or Parts
First. I'm no expert, so I'll tell you what I know about the unit, most of which you can see in the photos. The most prominent components are three meters, four transformers, two variable transformers, and a bank of selenium rectifiers. Someone rewired the AC and DC outputs to the front of the unit, not real difficult given all the space available. The DC meter works and seems accurate based on comparison with my Sperry meter. The AC variable transformer works because the Sperry measures its variations, but the power supply meter is not working. I did not test the voltmeter. The unit is reasonably clean and in overall decent cosmetic condition. Seems like it would make a fun project to restore and maybe upgrade the selenium rectifiers to current devices. Recently picked it up at an auction. Looks like it once belonged to Metropolitan Edison Co. in Reading. PA. This unit was for 250 volts The wood case is still in pretty good condition. Some laminate lost on the front of case at the right bottom. Some laminate loss. Looks like top broke off from main unit by the hinges at one time and a piece of the top is missing. Glass over the dial is intact. Last patent date shown on the unit is June 1917. On same label in the left top corner is 11-17-21. The needle does move when the unit is moved side to side. All tests passed successfully; it is in an excellent working condition. This was my grandfathers old test meter which he purchased at a navy yard surplus sale many years ago. It probably dates from the 1940's or 50's. He used it many years and it is still in functioning condition and appears accurate. The glass lens has no cracks and the leather strap in in good condition. I will ship this to the USA. Now it is a portable voltmeter or display in your collection. There are small chips in the glass on the edges, which is typical for these covers.
