Selling a Precision granite surface plate 6ft x 8ft x 1ft thick in good condition. Plate has no cracks and only a very small chip on one of the edges barely seen on one of the pictures. This plate has been flipped over because holes were drilled on the other side for mounting specialty equipment when used at Boeing aircraft. This side is not as precise as the backside but has no holes. the backside is ground to.0001's precision. This side is about.001's precision. It has worked great for me on large parts. You can send it out to Precision, or probably any granite surface plate manufacturer in your area) and have it precision ground to.0001's precision for about $800. I never needed that kind of precision. It is difficult to find such a large granite plate weighing over 8,000 and still in this condition. Starrett Granite based surface plate/ Comparator/W Starrett gauge/ portable case
This is a Starrett surface plate with Starrett gauge number 25-131S. I saved from going to the trash years ago when the company I worked for was closing a facility. I believe we used it to set up inside micrometers. And possibly other things. It has a 2" thick granite base at the thickest middle points. And it is 1" thick at cut outs on sides. Gauge measures.140" of travel, and it is 4" from the tip of the gauge to the 1 1/8 inch steel rod. The gauge does not have a glass cover. I don't know if it ever did? The protective case is a durable plastic/fibreglass with aluminum reinforced edges that has dense foam at the bottom to surround the granite. And on the inside lid to prevent the device from moving around. I am sure that a shop that uses multiple inside mics could use this to test to insure all are measuring the ... moresame. With some ingenuity. I am sure it might have multiple uses as a surface plate and set up for tools. I am sure this thing cost several $1000's when purchased from Starrett. This thing is heavy.
