Powermatic Wood Lathe Model 45, Heavy Duty Vintage Machine, 4 Speed
This auction is for an old heavy-duty Powermatic wood lathe. Model 45. I don't know the year of manufacture, but they don't make them like this anymore! The lathe is 4 speed. The belt tension is relieved by moving the front lever. Allowing the turner to select different pulleys to change speeds. The lathe comes with a tool rest base, a 12" rest, a 6" rest, and a 6" faceplate. There is a ball bearing live center and a small fixture that came with the lathe but I don't remember what it is used for. I keep the ways and the moving parts of the base lightly lubricated with WD-40 and they work smoothly. The lathe runs well and is in good working order. The motor is wired for 110 v. I own a guitar repair shop and have used this lathe to turn custom handles for some of my tools. I turned the rasp handle in the photo out ... moreof Box Elder burl. I relocated to a smaller shop last year and now this lathe is more in the way than useful to me. So it has to go. Local pickup only, this sucker is HEAVY and will require 4 strong backs to lift it. RARE - Lg. Wood Patent Model "Inside Lathe" by W.C.Whitmore Strombecker Mfg
This is a Rare Wood Patent Model constructed by W.C. Whitmore. The model was purchased at an estate auction in rural Iowa. The gentleman who constructed the model was W.C. Whitmore. His grand-daughter was last owner of the item prior to me. The grand-daughter attended the auction and gave me a little information about it(his grand-daughter was probably in her late 70s or early 80s) She said. Her grandfather constructed the model for his employer Strombecker Mfg. She wasn't sure of the time period. But thinks it was prior to the 1950s. She said the wood model was created as a" patent model" and it represents the inside turning portion of a lathe machine. I am not positive all the pieces pictured are part of the lathe model. But it was purchased together. The largest piece measures- 27" long. All the parts together weigh ... more16lbs. The entire collection is in excellent condition. The only visible damage is a small piece of wood which is missing on the small shaft(see photos 11& 12) Otherwise. The collection is in super condition. This is an older wood lathe. It will handle a 40 inch long by 12 inch wide piece of wood. It is missing the one plate at the drive that has the maker name on it. The shaft is 2 1/2 inches in diameter It comes with a 4 step pulley headstock on the lathe and a 3 step pulley on the motor. It has the spur and center pieces. It comes with the tool rest The motor is a Westinghouse 1/2 HP which is mounted on a tensioner plate with a hinge. V belt included. Everything turns smoothly. The lathe. Delta cat no945 wood lathe leg set for 1460 or 930 lathes
Up for bid is a setof Delta cat no 945 wood lathe legs. Legs are in great shape with no cracks. Breaks or repairs. There are two small tapped holes in one of the legs(shown in picture two) that were used to secure the power cord for the motor on the inside of the legs. The holes are clean and would fill easily if you needed. I also have two sets of the original boards that I will throw in if you want to pay the shipping. The first set of boards is for the 12" 1460 wood lathe. They are in good condiiton. The bottom board has a slight split on both ends that go maybe 6" but are not seperating. This would fill easily or use as is. The structural integrity is not compromised by any means. They do not have any extra holes drilled in them. The second set is for the 11" 930 lathe. They are in not as good of shape but are useable and ... morestill very straight. There are extra holes as you can see in the pictures but are still sturdy. Up for bid is a Delta Milwaukee 11" 930 wood lathe head stock. The last larger belt groove and the indexing portion of the pulley is gone. It is the original pulley but it has been modigied or broke. The rest of the pulley looks good. The indexing pin is missing also. However. The bearings and spindle are in great shape. There are no cracks breaks or repairs in the main casting. It also comes with a 3 step pulley for the motor. The pulley fits a 1/2" shaft. Please ask questions before bidding. There is a small ding/dent in one of the counter shaft assembly wheel's for the belt pulley system, doesnt seem to affect anything. RARE FIND BANJO FOR A POWERMATIC#90 WOOD LATHE TOOL REST NOT INCLUDED. THIS IS A VERY HARD TO FIND PART. FROM A 1970'S POWERMATIC LATHE RECUSED FROM A HIGH SCHOOL CLEAN OUT IN RHODE ISLAND. THE LOCKING LEVER WHICH OPERATES THE BANJO HOLD DOWN CLAMP IS NOT ORIGINAL. BUT DOES WORK AS INTENDED. THIS PART COULD EASILY COULD HAVE A TURNED HANDLE INSTALLED ONTO THE THREADED PIECE, I JUST NEVER TOOK THE TIME TO DO SO, AS IT WORKS FINE AND LOCKS TO THE BED AS INTENDED. THE TOOL REST ARE NOT INCLUDED BUT MEASURE ONE INCH. THE CLAMPING UNIT. AFTER MONTHS OF LOOKING, I FINALLY GOT FROM POWERMATIC, AND THEY LOCK THE TOOL REST AS INTENDED.
