The spindle hole is 1 3/4" It has an 18" chuck. The motor appears to be 5 h.p. and 880 rpm. It is 220v/440v and 15.2 amps/ 7.6 amps 3-phase. The overall length is 20 feet. The widest point from the back of the taper attachment to the carriage handle is 48" I estimate the weight to be 8000 lbs max. It has a 3/4" spindle bore, 9" swing over bed, and 20" between centers, overall bed length is about 28" Has a 3/4 hp 110v motor and runs nice. Spindle bearings were repacked with Lucas ren'n tacky#2 EP grease not long ago, and it has been kept oiled, NOT with cheap motor oil but with quality Mobil Vactra way oil and dte heavy/medium oils. The bed is heat treated and doesn't have any dings/dents or damage along its whole length. The machine is mounted on a very sturdy Waterloo bench. The top worm surface measures 23"x54"x1 1/4" it makes for a solid structure and lots of storage space with its 3 drawers. All drawers have ball bearing slides. Has forward and reverse, saddle has power feed and 9 speed gearbox. The bed has been hardened ... moreand ground for accuracy. Lathe comes with left hand tool, 1 dead centre and 1 three jaw chuck. lathe was made in the early 1920's(possibly late 1800's) this lathe has been brought back to working condition(just add oil) all the exposed surfaces have been coated with a barrier film to prevent rust. lathe is 98% original. pictures do not do it justice- definately a must see with your own eyes. Stands waste height and is about 4 ft long. 1) What is the swing of this lathe? Or what is the largest diameter I can turn on it? Vintage Hjorth Metal Lathe No. 152
Vintage Hjorth Metal Lathe 8 3/4" x 18" Number 152 The bed is 36" long. The headstock spindle and tailstock take B& S 6 taper. The lathe is in good condition overall. There is lots of frosting on compound and cross slide. There is very little backlash. Less than 10/1000" The bed ways have no frosting but are in good shape, though there are some marks. Collets I believe are 4NS. 31 total collets. Collet draw bar. Spindle thread protector. Two shell/face mill holders. Jacobs Chuck and arbor. Three endmill type holders. The motor is a General Electric and looks unused still. It is mounted on a sliding plate, allowing easy belt changes. The oilers look nice and clean on the inside and do have oil inside. The compound slide rest has a 5 1/2" top movement and a 4 1/2" cross movement. Is topped by an eccentric toolpost ... morevery similar to that found on Rivett lathes. There is a second compound slide rest that has slots to mount a tool holder. A complete rocker style tool post is included. The lathe appears to have been repainted. Some of the parts may not be original. There are some marks on the slide. There is some surface rust but not bad at all. The stand is made by Atlas and has very nice pieces of oak wood for the top and shelf. The collet set is missing the 7/32" collet. The collet drawbar handle has some holes. Spindle is being driven by v belt. Includes everything in the picks. If you are interested in the lathe without the Atlas stand. I will lower the price by $200. This is a great vintage Sears Roebuck table top Metal lathe. model 109.0701. Cast iron bed. Cross slide works fine, tool holder is present, tailstock slides and adjusts. The head feels tight, no slop in the bearings. it measures 29 1/2" overall length. from the face of the chuck to the end of the center is about 18" the 4 jaw chuck is 3" diameter. measures about 3" from center of the chuck to the bed ways. there are 3 drive pulleys. just needs a little lube and a motor. the motor that was with it was no good, so rather than sell you something thats junk i passed it to scrap. Comes with a Cushman 5" Dia. chuck in good shape(the number stamped on the back of the chuck matches the ser. of lathe so maybe original) This came from school and was mostly used with wood and has some sawdust on the gears, no broken gear teeth, all speeds/feeds controlled by the quick change gear box function, power cross and longitudinal feeds work fine, back gear works fine. Vee belt drive, 16 speeds from 38 RPM to 1230 RPM, 1 1/2" 8 threaded spindle w/ 3 MT bore ... moreand 25/32" thru bore. Tail stock is 2 MT bore and is missing the correct quill locking lever has a makeshift one installed that works ok. The lathe has the later style large dia. 1 3/4" dials on the crossfeed and compound rest. The backlash on the crossfeed is.014" and the compound is.006" The bed has numerous dings on the top of the vee ways that don't really effect use, the wear on the bed is very minimum at less than.003" I did a basic test which involves having a dial indicator contact the flat way the tailstock rides on which receives little wear with the magnetic base of the indicater on the carriage and running the length of the bed all the way up to right against the head stock wear it receives zero wear I get about 2 1/2 thousands of an inch drop in the middle of the bed. This lathe comes just as shown, nothing else included, no tools are accessories. The carriage lock bolt is there but the clamping block is missing. The over all dimensions of the lathe are 58 1/2" L x 22 1/2" W and 48" overall height. This cabinet design allows the lathe to be pushed right up to the wall. The lathe model I think was a 3950 from the 1970's. I think this is a thread change set but I am not a machinist so look at the pics. Rare South Bend 9" Metal Lathe Pristine Cond. Gunsmith Loaded W/tooling 110v
Lightly used near Pristine South Bend 9"X24" metal lathe with tooling purchased from the original owner. Purchased in about 1950 serial number is 21059NKR7 model number 344ZD. Powered by 110volt with reversing drum switch. The ways on this machine are one step short of perfect. The scrapings are crisp and clearly visible from front to back on all ways. The back lash is 1/8 turn on cross and compound. The chuck has never hit the compound or carriage. The paint is original with a little rubbed off in places from cleaning. The cabinet and chip pan are clean and in near perfect condition. This lathe has never been really dirty. All corners are clean as new. The gears are all perfect and pretty clean. This is the nicest best kept South Bend we have ever seen loaded with tooling. The lathe runs as good as it looks. All functions work ... moregreat and it has a new flat belt. Very minor scratches on the lathe. CLAUSING LATHE 5902 12"x24" Metal cutting machine tool
Here we have a used Clausing model 5902 engine lathe. I think its a 12"x24" size. It has a 3 phase 1 HP. motor. Serial No. 50866. I aquired it, and never got a phase converter to run it. Previous owner said everything on it worked good. Bed ways look good, not all beat up etc. It does not have a chuck, but has a faceplate,and some hub parts that look like they go on the spindle. A set of collets should be coming with, as I find them Ill post pictures of them. Machine looks good, could use a cleaning,and service. Comes as you see it,with what you see,with the exception, of a collet set. Spindle mount is a threaded collar nut with a taper key style, not sure what the proper name is.
