Vintage Hamilton Beach Jewelers Lathe
Your looking at a nice vintage very cool Jewelers lathe. My dad recently passed and he had it for years in a box and never did anything with it. While cleaning out his stuff I brought it home. Plugged it in and wow it works. I did clean it up a tad with some electric motor cleaner and oiled the bearings and the motor runs well. The part where that attaches via the belt and turns does not rotate super smooth like you would expect for bearings so I suspect it needs taking apart and cleaned well. I recently saw one just like this sell for $330 and the seller didn't even know if it worked. The item is still sold as its as there is no guarantee due to its age. I've seen these restored and they are really cool. So this should be a workable unit to restore and make a fine vintage tool for someone. Some of these are marked Whitcomb, some are marked Boley, and some are unmarked. There are 20 standard spring collets, 9 specialty collets, and one 3-jaw faceplate collet. One of the square arbors on the 3-jaw collet is a bit marred, perhaps it could be smoothed and squared again with a small file. The standard collet sizes are 4, 6, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10, 10, 12, 16, 20, 20, 22, 24, 30(lightly stamped and hard to read) 36, stamp unreadable, 50, stamp unreadable. The name on the lathe is Whitcomb. After researching, I have found that Derbyshire/Whitcomb companies merged around 1913. My lathe looks a lot like the 1913 version shown. Cross Slide South Bend Jewelers Lathe Mill Drill Milling Machine ? Small Vintage
Vintage South Bend Cross Slide as shown in photos. Measures about 8 7/8" x 4" x 1 1/2" and weighs 11 pounds. Not sure what type of machine it was used on. Last 2 photos show stampings on the side. Has some areas of light surface rust but still functional and could be cleaned up better. Lower plate has a couple of 1/4" counter bored holes and other tapped holes for mounting. see photos) Upper plate has(8) 1/2" diameter holes drilled parallel to the slide, which are used with removeable 1/2" diameter pins with 1/4" taped holes used for hold downs. 1/4" wide slots are milled into these holes. There appears to be about.010 of backlash in the turn handle, which is probably normal for these old cross slides. Slide moves freely but I also don't notice any looseness in the gibs.

Levin Jewelers Lathe Chip Pan for 18" Lathe Bed
Here is a chip pan for a Levin 18" lathe bed in good used condition. There are no cracks. Breaks or missing edges. There are two 10-32 tapped holes in the back wall of the chip pan I used them to attach a light. You can plug them with a cap screw if you do not want to use them. Please look closely at the photos there is discoloration from cutting oil but no rust. With a paint job it would look like new. I show photos of the chip pan together with a bed for clarity only. Up for auction is a beautiful little Portass Model Makers lathe. Made in the UK in 1926. The serial number is 66 and yes they match. This lathe has never been set up or used. it is in pristine condition. This would be a great addition to an antique lathe or tool collection. I tried to include a link to more info on this lathe at the lathes UK website but ebay in their devine insanity will not allow that. However. If you go to the Lathes UK website and scroll down the page until you get to the very long list of lathe manufacuters you can find the Portass name. Click on it and you will find a lot more info on these little lathes. The lathe is approximately 18" overall length. 7 1/2" tall. It comes with the original 3" faceplate. There are two 0mt dead centers that come with it. I have a 0mt live center and a few jacobs chucks ... morewith 0mt shafts I will be listing in separate auctions.
